We are committed to making sure that women and children in Coachella Valley have a refuge here… each night! According to the 2023 US HUD Annual Homelessness Assessment Report, three in ten individuals experiencing homelessness were women (30%). By comparison, six in ten people experiencing homelessness in families with children were women or girls. In partnership with Riverside County Housing & Workforce Solutions, we are responding to this need with our Women's & Children's shelter expansion, which will add up to an additional 60 beds each night for families in need. We collaborated with the amazing folks at Overflow 9:12 to provide mobile showers and Well in the Desert, who served up a delicious meal. We're thrilled to announce we’ve officially broken ground on our Women's & Children's shelter expansion, a project made possible by the incredible support of 4th District Supervisor V. Manuel Perez, Riverside County Housing & Workforce Solutions, Universal General & Engineering Inc., and our dedicated team at Coachella Valley Rescue Mission. Thank you for helping us expand our mission of providing shelter and support to those in need. Because of the support of our community partners, families in need are sheltered AND provided the stepping stones they need to get back on their feet and move toward brighter, more stable futures. At CVRM, 300+ men, women and children in Coachella Valley are sheltered each night between our emergency shelter and residential shelter. We also offer case management, referrals, recovery programs and housing assistance. Additionally, our clients have access to on-site partner SAC Health for medical care, as well as mental health assessments and counseling. Only 3 more days until the groundbreaking ceremony for our Women's and Children's Shelter expansion, a pivotal milestone in our commitment to serving vulnerable populations in the Coachella Valley. You’re invited to attend on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the site of the new shelter, located at 47470 Van Buren St. in Indio. The $2.5 million Women's and Children's Shelter expansion is an initiative born out of compassion and a desire to provide a safe haven for women and children facing homelessness and adversity. This expansion will add an additional 60 beds to the current shelter, as well as a kitchen, laundry facilities, common areas, and playground. It will not only offer shelter, but also comprehensive support services aimed at empowering women and aiding children in overcoming the challenges they face.
