What do we do in this Texas heat? Keep going and get creative, that's what! Our own Donny Daughenbaugh got a call yesterday at 7 AM from a Veteran who lives close to him that the Coalition previously helped with mortgage and utility assistance. He'd gotten behind on his electric bill but didn't want to ask anyone for help. He woke up to a hot house with no lights and no AC. In Texas, that's as bad or worse than an empty refrigerator. Pride is a powerful tool on the way up but it's much quicker as a weight on the way down. Donny started making calls and by 10 AM had picked up a borrowed, fully charged electric generator, 2 box fans and a cooler full of ice, water and light snacks. By 11:30 AM with the help of a small network of connected and caring Veteran supporters, the electricity issue was addressed, a payment plan was in place and the Veteran’s electricity was back on. 4 1/2 hours. 40 miles of driving. 1 hour of phone calls and the heart of the Coalition's 20 years of service was at work in Donny's community. #20YearsOfSalutingOurHeroes We're working in your community too, even if you don't know it- And we could really use your help! Even something as small as $20 per month would go a long way to help us with cases like these and our lightning-fast response time. https://lnkd.in/evuHNqTi

We offer a heartfelt congratulations to US Marine Veteran, Captain Frederick W. Smith who was announced as the Military Times Foundation 2024 “Veteran of the Year.” The Vietnam Veteran earned a silver star, bronze star and 2 purple hearts! After four years of service in the Marines, including two tours of duty in Vietnam, Capt. Smith founded FedEx to get items and products where they needed to be, appealing to the tech sector and rapid growth. He's given record breaking funding to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, funded Veteran entrepreneur programs, served as a co-chairman for the WW2 Museum and Museum of The Marine Corps at Quantico! His military story and post-service history are truly one for the record books. #FEDEX #FredWSmith #Veterans #Support #Nonprofits #entrepreneur #inspiration #Legacy #Legacygiving

Veterans- I help with case management for the Coalition and another, small, local League City #Texas nonprofit. For the 3rd time in 1 week, I've seen a spouse lose their job and the Veteran, who is getting VA disability compensation but not working, got ultra stressed out because of the sudden change in finances. We each deal with trauma differently. We each have different physical and / or mental scars that are evidence of surviving something traumatic. You've carried some weight from your past event, likely service connected and you're still alive. Why let something from your past stop you from living and being present in the now. Don't rob your family of the ability to succeed emotionally, financially and lovingly. Find a hobby, find a side hustle, learn new skills and "get back on the horse". If you did it before, you can do it again. #Veterans #KeepLearning #Skills #Hobbies #Sidehustle #moneymatters #disability #VA #UnitedStates

Every day requests come in from Veterans across the country. We would like to get personal and share with you one of many recent submissions for assistance in hopes that it helps you all empathize with why we do what we do. 📣📣Army veteran from Georgia. She is a single mom of one child. She suffers from PTSD and MST from her time in Iraq. She was recently let go from her job after they downsized, and she is searching for a new one. She is doing everything she can to keep up with her bills, but she was served an eviction notice. To prevent her and her child from becoming homeless, she needs $1,400 for her rent payment. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. While this injury may be invisible, the effects of traumatic brain injuries are often long lasting and can impact a Veteran for their lifetime. Traumatic brain injury, or TBI, is an injury that adversely affects how the brain works. Depending on the severity of the injury, those who suffer a TBI may face complicated mental, physical, and emotional health problems that can last a few weeks – or the rest of their lives. Our VP of Administration and development Donald Daughenbaugh, MSM says it like this: "TBI can feel like climbing a broken ladder. TBI can be like having dark spots in the light. TBI can be a memory thief or a joy stealer. Having a TBI is a part of my story but it doesn't define me. It didn't stop me from getting my AA, BS or MBA, doesn't stop me from being a Marine Veteran, loving dad & husband and it won't stop me from living life!" #brainhealthmatters #march2024 #tbiawareness #veteranshelpingveterans #salutetoservice
