Dear Friends, If you have been connected with the Coalition for a long time, you likely have inspiring memories of our founding Executive Director, Colleen Ellingson. Colleen and her husband, Ed, retired to Colorado in 2014 after over 30 years leading this organization. We have stayed in touch with Colleen and Ed, and have some news to share. Colleen is living with dementia and has moved into a care facility. On September 14, Colleen’s brother, Mark McCabe will be participating in an Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The family has allowed us to share this update about Colleen and the walk in her honor with all of you. Genetic testing has become increasingly common in the United States, raising important considerations for those who complete such testing and for their genetic relatives. For many adoptees, the decision to complete genetic testing often carries additional considerations, including implications for connections to one’s birth family, and for the possibility of accessing new health information.
