On August 8, 1907, the first professional engineering (PE) license was issued to Wyoming engineer, Charles Bellamy. Since then, PE licensure has expanded and professional engineers across the U.S. have made the commitment to protect public health, safety, and welfare by following suit.   Today is Professional Engineers Day and we're joining the National Society of Professional Engineers in celebrating PEs across the country and raising awareness of the many benefits of licensure including:   Respect: PEs are highly respected, earning a place among elite professionals.   Career Development: A PE license impresses employers, enhancing your stature and demonstrating leadership and commitment. It broadens career options and offers greater job security.   Authority: Only PEs can sign and seal engineering drawings and serve as expert witnesses.   Compensation: PEs generally earn more and are provided greater opportunities.   #LicensedPEday #CivilEngineering #AEC #ProfessionalEngineer

Happy Earth Day! It's a great day to think about the small shifts that can be made in how we work, live, and play on this miracle planet. As a community design firm, it is our responsibility to consider sustainability and preservation in all aspects of land development and infrastructure design.  An example of stewardship through design was a Caltrans-approved stormwater project in Northern California. Our Bellecci team was asked to research alternatives for stormwater detention and rain gardens were a natural fit! Rain gardens are landscapes designed to capture, absorb, filter, and prevent excessive storm runoff. They are a natural way of improving the water quality of nearby streams and rivers, boosting biodiversity (think birds and beneficial insects!), mitigating flooding, and enhancing the appeal of urban spaces. The rain garden pictured here was the first retrofit on a State Route constructed in Caltrans District 4. The system, along a busy State Route/Regional corridor, is estimated to provide .22 CFof water treatment and inspired similar greenstreets projects in other San Francisco Bay Area cities further along the corridor.
