CPSDA leads the way in applied performance nutrition, advocates for the advancement of performance nutrition infrastructure, drives job growth and provides members with tools to support their full career development.

  • Tactical Nutrition Summit speaker spotlight featuring Dr. Dominic D'Agostino. Dr. D’Agostino is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida (USF) Morsani College of Medicine and a Visiting Senior Research Scientist at the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC). He has a personal interest in environmental medicine and methods to enhance safety and resilience of military personnel and astronauts in extreme environments. His research is supported by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), Department of Defense (DoD), private organizations and nonprofit foundations. Learning objectives: -Overview of the molecular and biochemical phenomenon that initiates and drives the Warburg phenotype of metabolic transformation. -Understand how ketone metabolic therapy (KMT) changes metabolic physiology, metabolic biomarkers and systemic health. -Targeting the hallmarks of cancer with KMT as an adjuvant for cancer management and cancer prevention. -Review of published studies implementing KMT for cancer in pre-clinical animal model systems and an overview of current human clinical trials. -Description of KMT implementation for cancer, including the most important cardiometabolic biomarkers to measure and track over time.   • Tactical Nutrition Summit speaker spotlight featuring Dr. Lee Margolis. Dr. Margolis is currently a Nutrition Physiologist in the Military Nutrition Division at the USARIEM. His research program aims at determining nutrition and pharmacological interventions to optimize carbohydrate metabolism to enhance physical performance of modern Warfighters during and in recovery from sustained dietary inadequacy, heavy physical activity, and environmental exposure. Dr. Margolis investigates nutritional needs of Warfighters through assessment of whole-body metabolism and skeletal muscle molecular metabolic responses to exercise, nutritional manipulation, and exposure to environmental extremes.   • Tactical Nutrition Summit speaker spotlight featuring Dr. Tracey Smith. Tracey Smith, PhD, RD is the Deputy Chief of the Military Nutrition Division at the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM, Natick, MA). Dr. Smith earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Connecticut (2000), a Master’s Degree in Nutrition at Framingham State University (2002) and her Doctoral degree in the School of Health Related Professions at Rutgers, The State University of New University (2011). She is a Registered Dietitian and is a certified Exercise Physiologist (American College of Sports Medicine). Dr. Smith began as a project manager in USARIEM’s Military Nutrition Division (2002) and has been a principal investigator since 2010. In addition to her duties as Deputy Chief of the Military Nutrition Division, Dr. Smith has an active research lab addressing nutrition interventions to support immune recovery and serves as Chair of the USARIEM Credentials Committee. Dr. Smith is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Society of Nutrition, has authored or coauthored over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and technical reports, and is a reviewer for various peer-reviewed journals. After attending this seminar, attendees will be able to: -Identify the nutrition-related factors that influence immune function and infectious disease risk in military personnel. -Evaluate the relationship between insufficient energy and nutrient intake during military training and/or operations and its effect on infection susceptibility. -Assess the implications of obesity and chronic inflammation on immune impairments and infectious disease risk.. -Formulate strategies for optimizing nutrient intake to mitigate disease burden and enhance readiness amount in military personnel.
