This past Saturday, July 13th, members of the Planning Division participated in the Hilltop Summer Jam West festival. The annual event is a grassroots community arts festival held at Westgate Park and is organized by the Hilltop Arts Collective. Staff contributed by setting up a booth and offering information on the new proposed Zoning Code Update, insight on what we do here in the Planning Division, and even some games and treats for the kiddos. It was a great day full of fun and community! Public Art Piece Highlight #38 The Sullivant Bright Electrical boxes are one of the 92 art pieces included in the Columbus Public Art Collection. Sullivant Bright Utility Box 1: Located at the corner of Sullivant and Whitethorne Avenues. Sullivant Avenue has played a significant role in the history of Columbus. The corridor provided access to a major civil war encampment as well as many past and present landmarks. The corridor is a place of authentic creativity including a prominent mural and numerous custom signs. In creating Sullivant Bright, special consideration was given to maximizing the utilization of the right of way and to geographic distribution throughout the corridor to ensure equitable access to residents and who live along the corridor. This wrap was designed by Derrick Callendar, with images of dogs and dog toys. Hubbard House Did you know that Planning scanned our historic Atlases for public viewing? You can use it to find all sorts of interesting items, such as the location of the Hubbard House which sat at 845 North High Street (namesake of Hubbard Avenue, “The Hub”, and the “Hubbard Grille”). It was built in 1850 by William B, Hubbard who was a lawyer, legislator, financier, senator, and prominent citizen of Columbus. It was demolished between 1911 and 1919.
