Thanks to the generous support of Clark Construction Group two of our CIS of Atlanta alums, MiQyra Galimore and Aliza Gurung, had the chance to travel to Croatia with the Global Youth Leadership Academy this summer. They joined teens from across the country, spending the week participating in educational programs focused on global and cultural awareness, leadership development, communication, and inter-personal growth. We are so grateful for our partnership with Clark Construction and their commitment to positively changing the lives of the students we serve.

Our CEO Frank Brown recently traveled to Harvard Business School to help teach the “Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management” program at the Harvard Business School along with Communities In Schools national President and CEO Rey Saldaña. Communities In Schools of Atlanta is a national model of success, inspiring a 2023 Harvard Business School case study on successful nonprofit leadership. Cheers to our CEO for inspiring future nonprofit leaders by carrying out a powerful mission to keep all students on the track to graduation.

Communities In Schools of Atlanta welcomes Dr. Bryan Johnson as Atlanta Public Schools' new superintendent! Dr. Johnson has a strong history of K-12 leadership having served as executive vice chancellor and chief strategy officer at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and as superintendent of Hamilton County Schools, where he launched the Future Ready Institutes and secured free high-speed internet for disadvantaged students during the pandemic. We look forward to his vision for equitable education for all students and to working with him in his new role.

Communities In Schools of Atlanta is proud to welcome Angela Harris as our new Director of People Operations. In her role, Angela leads our people operations strategies and works closely with our internal teams to ensure that our organization continues to be a place where diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just values we espouse, but integral parts of our everyday operations. A native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Angela joins us with extensive human resources management experience in the banking, information technology, retail and manufacturing industries. She earned her bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Alabama A&M University and master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Troy University. Angela is an avid reader and traveler, but her favorite activity is spending time with her children. We are so excited to have Angela as a member of our team, carrying out our mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
