  • Meet our Reentry To Resilience (R2R) team. CISNC's R2R program serves youth transitioning from Youth Development Centers (YDC's ) back into their communities and schools. Last month, for Second Chance Act Month, the R2R team held a "Rep Your YDC" competition, encouraging students to share what a second chance means to them through song, poetry, rap, art, crochet work, and written stories. All of the youth entries were AMAZING!! One winner was chosen from each YDC, and that winner “competed” against each respective YDC winner. The competition was strong, and the youth really showed their creativity! It was a tough choice for the R2R team! The overall winner of the Second Chance Month “Rep Your YDC” competition is a young lady at Chatham YDC.

  • Shaki'ya is a senior in our Jobs for North Carolina's Graduates (JNCG) program. When asked how JNCG impacted her, this was her response: "JNCG has helped me truly understand myself and has given me the courage to go after whatever I put my mind to. I am thankful for this course because it has taught me so many valuable life skills that most people don't learn until they are well into adulthood. Not only was the class amazing but Ms.Robinson is an amazing teacher who actually takes time to connect with us, make us feel good about ourselves, and lead us in the right direction. She always pushed us to be better than we were the day before." Visit our website to learn more about our JNCG program. #allInforkids

  • Courtney was referred to her CIS Student Support Specialist, Ms. Watkins, who worked with her to address her attendance barriers and develop a plan to make sure she attended school regularly. One of Ms. Watkin’s strategies was to create a safe and engaging space at school. Through one of the paint socials, Courtney regained her passion for art. She looks forward to Ms. Watkins’s paint sessions, and the opportunity for more creative outlets is now one of her motivators to keep attending school. Since engaging with CIS and Ms. Watkins, she has grown both personally and academically. Courtney is looking ahead to a much more positive future, thanks to the supports provided by Ms. Watkins and Communities In Schools.
