  • National Health Center Week is the perfect opportunity to highlight some of our dedicated staff that go above and beyond helping to make our food pantry run smoothly. Food insecurity has an extensive impact on overall health and well-being. Our health center staff understand how important access to healthy, culturally relevant and sustainable food is. Through a vital and long standing partnership with Good Shepherd Food Bank, our pantry is able to provide meals to an average of 150 patients per month. Annually, this equates to 20,000 adddional meals to the community. Pictured below are team members that coordinate pick ups for the pantry items, organize it all, and ensure that it is always stocked and accessible for our patients. From left to right : Jessica Cuff, Briana Moreau, Sarah Lavertu. We thank them for their mission driven work and commitment. Are you interested in learning how you can help support our pantry or overall mission? Here are ways to help: 1. Donate clean, reusable bags (preferably ones that have handles and are easy to carry). Please drop off at our B-Street Health Center, M-F between 8am -5:00pm. *we do not accept food donations at this time. Address: 57 Birch St, Lewiston 2. • It's National Community Health Center Week! We are excited to celebrate along with more than 1,400 other CHCs throughout the U.S. This year's theme is "powering communities through caring connections" and we think it's perfect. After all, caring connections is exactly what it takes to power communities. As we celebrate our health center patients, staff, board of directors, community partners, and stakeholders this week and beyond, we take pause to reflect upon the health center movement from its origins in the war on poverty and civil right's movement in the 1960's. Since that time, Community Health Centers have expanded to help mitigate barriers to care across 15,000 communities. More than 31.5 million patients are served at CHCs. 1 in 5 Mainers receive care at a CHC, including the more than 13,000 patients served by our health center. Together, we can empower communities through caring connections. #ValueCHCs To learn more about our health center, including career and volunteer opportunities, visit: https://lnkd.in/epxhzhBS

  • This study shines another spotlight on why equitable access to care is so critical. Community Health Centers help bridge gaps in care and serve as true safety nets for millions of people. #ValueCHCs

A new study documents what Community Health Center staff see every day: More than 1 in 10 health center patients experience major social risk factors. This data also underscores why the work health centers do beyond the clinic walls to help patients overcome barriers -- like transportation, housing, and food insecurity -- that affect health and well-being is so important. "Our findings likely reflect the structural barriers to equity that many patients from marginalized populations continue to face," says study lead Dr. Kevin Nguyen, assistant professor of health law, policy & management at Boston University School of Public Health. The BUSPH study found high rates of food insecurity, housing insecurity, financial strain, and/or a lack of transportation among federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) patients. "Funding specifically allocated for integrating social risk screening, as well as community-informed processes for addressing unmet social needs, may help mitigate these barriers," Dr. Nguyen says. "National policies are shifting toward incentivizing the measurement of social risk factors, so identifying the payment and care delivery models that equip providers to sustainably address unmet social needs among patients who want assistance may be critical." • Our health center is looking forward to being among 1,400 other health centers throughout the country celebrating National Health Center Week August 4th - 10th. We have so much to celebrate, and also lots of work to do serving our communities.

📆 Save the Date! National Health Center Week (NHCW) takes place August 4-10 in communities across the United States. Every August NACHC sponsors NHCW to celebrate America’s 1,400 Community Health Centers. This week is an opportunity to increase awareness of the critical role health centers play as the nation’s largest network of primary care providers. It’s also time to highlight the commitment and passion of health center staff, board members, and supporters who make it possible to provide quality, comprehensive healthcare services to more than 31.5 million patients across nearly 15,000 communities annually. Learn about how to participate and view the resources we’ve created to make it easy to celebrate NHCW! https://lnkd.in/eU8NQHu #NHCW24

  • July 1st, 2024: Today, our health center is pleased to announce the launch of our new logo. The logo change is part of a marketing and rebranding initiative due to a change in our health center's affiliation with the St Mary's Health System. After 39 years in operation, and by mutual agreement and approval by the Board of Directors, our health center is no longer affiliated with the St Mary's Health System. While no longer affiliated, our partnership with St Mary's continues. We are incredibly grateful for the decades of support they have provided us through our affiliation. While our logo may be changing, our health centers' mission, vision and commitment to serving our community remains unwavering. We are excited to have reached this important milestone, and to continue providing safe, equitable and compassionate care to all who utilize our medical, dental and mental health services. The logo was designed by a local graphic designer, and was chosen for its warm and welcoming image and blue and green colors. Blue is a color that is kindled with gentleness, trust, loyalty, and integrity. Green is a calming color asscociated with nature, balance and harmony - all of which are important elements of health and well-being and have a strong connection to our mission. Today is a day of celebration as we look back with gratitude, and look ahead with excitement in continuing to fulfill our mission to improve the health and well-being of our community through patient centered care, advocacy and community engagement.

  • Today we celebrate emancipation, noting this day of Freedom that commemorates the day in which word finally reached Galveston, Texas to share the news that slaves were freed under the Emancipation Proclomation more than two years earlier. We recognize that this is a day of celebration of Freedom for some, but that it also holds pain for many as the truth of the nations' past is difficult. Our health center is proud to be a part of a diverse and vibrant community in which we participate in progress, and commit to racial justice and advocacy.

  • Today we honor the heroes that lost their lives during service to our country. Lest not forget the ultimate sacrifice they made as we honor their memory, hold their loved ones in our hearts, and pay our respects through intentional reflection of what this day means. We are forever grateful and indebted to these service members.
