Tapping into the talented network of creators we have encountered on our journey building COMUNITYmade, INC. Today is the first look at our Exclusive Limited Edition collaboration with Happy Medium - an experimental Los Angeles fashion brand. The collab was created in The Arts District of Los Angeles, which is home to many talented artists including Breanna Browning the creator behind Happy Medium. Together we are exploring novel methodologies of design, material development, sustainability and production to create the "new certainty" for the future. This short feature film exemplifies the creative spirit and the possibilities ahead. The collection features a unique 3D double layered knit utilizing high performance recycled polyester yarn made from post-consumption plastic bottles with a polyester filling. Designed, developed and produced in our boutique production facility in DTLA by our talented makers. Available in 3 of our most popular styles for women and men, that will be made in small exclusive batches. Available only on comunitymade.com . #comunitymade #comunitymadeshoes #madeinla #madeinuse #sneakers #collaboration #handcrafted #artshoes #handmade #sustainablefashion

President / Founder of COMUNITYmade. Former Marketing Executive for ASICS America.

It's not business as usual post pandemic. Matt Powell brings up some interesting points in his article, including the need to diversify the supply chain. We could not agree more which is why we started COMUNITYmade, INC over 6 years ago. Overseas mass production is not sustainable for a variety of reasons - speed to market, overproduction of everything that then leads to mark downs and worse more waste in landfills. Add to that the carbon footprint and human rights issues and it quickly becomes apparent that the model is broken. The near shoring movement is in full swing and brands large and small have been approaching us to find out what the opportunities are for design, development and production locally. We started with our own COMUNITYmade branded shoes, where we had to "cobble" together our own supply chain, and quickly realized the those learnings are invaluable. We have been referred to as the "De-facto Nucleus of the Los Angeles footwear nearshore movement" and we proudly accept knowing all of the hard work we have put in. Our mission when we founded our company was to demonstrate that producing things closer to where the customers are, is a viable option. Have we perfected everything yet? No, but that's what keeps us motivated everyday to find solutions, taking into account all of our past experiences at larger footwear companies. If you or someone you know wants to learn more about our movement, hit us up! We love a good challenge and meeting new thinking head on.
