🌍 Africa is home to a quarter of the world's remaining biodiversity, making conservation crucial for global climate resilience and planetary health. With increasing threats like habitat loss and poaching, the management of these ecosystems is more important than ever. The 2024 Concordia Annual Summit will host a session with Core Programming Partner, African Parks Network, to focus on meaningful solutions to the biodiversity crisis, highlighting an innovative public-private partnership model involving African governments, local communities, and African Parks. This NGO manages 22 protected areas in 12 countries, covering over 77,000 square miles, demonstrating conservation at scale. They'll explore how this model works, how they measure success, and the role the private sector can play in achieving long-term conservation outcomes. This partnership is especially close to my heart, as Coca-Cola HBC was the first major partner to believe in my team at Asociația The Social Incubator and to trust in our dedication, hard work, and ambitions. Since then, we have transformed tens of thousands of lives, driving a successful collaboration between the private, public, and civil society sectors, creating systemic change, and forming lasting, trust-filled friendships. The first photo is from my participation in the 𝑂𝑏𝑎𝑚𝑎 𝑆𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑚 last year, where I was deeply inspired by this prestigious event and the invaluable learning experiences it offered. This year, I am truly honored to stand on stage to share the story of this program which we have been implementing since 2017, the impact of the partnership along with the mission of my organization and our relentless commitment to empowering youth worldwide. Dreams do come true if you never stop fighting — a message we instill in the youth we work with every day. The P3 Impact Award, now in its 11th year, is a partnership between the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Global Partnerships, Concordia and University of Virginia Darden School of Business. It recognizes exemplary public-private partnerships that address global challenges such as education access, ecological sustainability, and economic empowerment. This #FinalistFriday, we’re excited to introduce our latest #P3Impact Award finalist: Plastic with Purpose (PwP) 🎉 PwP unites iDE (International Development Enterprises), Oceanworks®, and ReForm Plastics to create profitable and sustainable business models in Da Nang, Vietnam. This innovative partnership, catalyzed by the Danida Market Development Program (DMDP), focuses on enhancing the livelihoods of small-scale, informal waste workers—predominantly women—by improving the collection, recycling, and repurposing of ocean-bound plastics. PwP’s impact pathways include boosting incomes for informal waste workers, attracting investments in scalable waste management models, and promoting a circular economy by connecting last-mile market actors in emerging markets to the global plastic credit supply chain.
