Building a community of heroes who provide hope, guidance, and support to children with cancer and their families.

About us

Founded in 2006 as a salute to Connor Goodwin, who triumphed after 2-1/2 years of cancer treatment as a preschooler, Connor's Heroes® developed out of The Goodwin family's journey with childhood cancer. Their vision is to make sure no family goes through their child's cancer alone. Connor's Heroes builds a community of heroes who provide hope, guidance, and support to children with cancer and their families. Behind the scenes, we fund one of the few research funds at Massey Cancer Center that is dedicated to childhood cancer. Connor's Heroes serves the children who are in treatment at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

  • Over 100 hero kids, family members and friends joined us at Hardywood for The Annual Summer Send-Off. Jonathan The Juggler entertained everyone with his slapstick, magic tricks, and incredible juggling skills. The kids made terrariums and fairy gardens. Big Herm’s Catering had a spread of BBQ with all the fix'ns. Everyone’s favorite, The King Of Pops, handed out their cool popsicles. Our friends at ARCO Design/Build helped with the crafts, tattoo station and the cotton candy machine. Thank you to Jennike for face painting. You transformed the kids into tigers, dogs, dragon, or whatever they imagined. It was a fun party to end the summer!!

  • As you’re shopping for school, can you help the childhood cancer heroes who are in the hospital? Families in the hospital love the snacks, grab-n-go meals, cookies and great coffee we supply in the Connor's Heroes Family Room on 12th 🐢 Floor of CHoR. Why not purchase snacks for the hero families while you’re finishing your shopping? Open our Snack Wish List on Amazon 🔗 https://a.co/fKmCZJY Add to your cart one or two great snacks. When you check out, ship them to our office, 1840 West Broad Street Suite 300, RVA 23220. Boom! When your snacks arrive, Jillian will run them over to the hospital for the families.

  • There’s always room for ice cream!🍦 We loved seeing our Hero Families at Gelati Celesti for Connor’s Heroes Scoop Social. The kids picked their favorite flavors (there were some crazy combos like egg nog & peanut butter!). The Seven Slot Crew rolled in with the coolest looking Jeeps. The kids had a great time checking them all out. A big thank you to Gelati Celesti for donating a percentage of sales back to Connor’s Heroes yesterday. Next hero family event: our annual Summer Send Off at Hardywood!

  • For 23 years, the Ashland Barracudas swim team has hosted a Swim-A-Thon for childhood cancer research. The event began after a beloved swimmer —Jamie Hess — passed away in February 2002 following a long, courageous battle with leukemia. Last year, the team was devastated to learn that Gavin, one of their teammates, was diagnosed with cancer. Each swimmer dedicated stroke after stroke to Jamie and now — to Gavin. This year Gavin won the coveted Jamie Hess Award🥇. We are so proud of you! The Swim-A-Thon raises funds for the Jamie Hess Bone Marrow Transplant Fund and funded the BMT research lab (named after Jamie) on the 12th Floor 🐢 of the children’s hospital. The 2024 Swim-A-Thon raised over $8,000 towards childhood cancer research. Go team go!! Pictured: Fred Hess and his daughters, Erica and Frances, presented the 2024 Jamie Hess Award to Gavin.

  • It was “Christmas In July” at the July Heroes Art Session. The kids had a great time making reindeers out of clothes pins & pipe cleaners (a craft classic), snowflakes with colored beads, and colorful paper trees. Thank you to our crew of Santa Elves (aka our volunteers!). You crafted holiday magic for our childhood cancer hero families. Follow Connor’s Heroes. You won’t want to miss seeing the magical holiday we are planning for the children who are in active treatment. We are partnering with our friends at Celebrate RVA Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, and Santa!

  • Today’s Helping Hero is McKesson! They dropped off more than $1,500 worth of toys and crafts for our childhood cancer heroes. And shipped a bunch more purchased off of our Amazon Wish List. 💙 Little boy needs some Playdough?! Got it! 🩵A child wants a stuffed Bluey? Hug away!! 💙 A teen likes to draw? How about a LCD drawing tablet? Team McKesson did a great job purchasing fun stuff for our heroes. If your company or community service group likes to give back, message us. We make it easy, fun, and rewarding.

  • Crestwood Elementary in Chesterfield invited Connor’s Heroes to speak to their students about the impact Connor’s Heroes makes in our community. Dayna talked about how we provide hope, guidance and support to our families and how the students can be a hero to a child battling cancer. Thank you Crestwood Elementary for encouraging your students to make a difference in our community! #childhoodcancer #ChildhoodCancerHeroes #HeroesOfRVA
