Time is the resource that cannot be replaced. So when our field personnel have to interrupt water service, they're keenly aware of the need to act quickly while making sure the job is done right. Today their work involved repairs to underground valves that required a water stoppage for a local subdivision. The project was scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Their work was completed and service restored by 9 a.m. We race the clock as we also apply exacting standards because we believe in our #corevalues and because safe, reliable water empowers every home and business we serve. #water #utility #infrastructure

So we did this last Saturday morning – and it involved macaroni and cheese on an epic scale. About 90 members of the CUD workforce and their families gathered at Lane Agri-Park in Murfreesboro for a major community service project. Over a few hours, we assembled, packaged, and boxed 30,000 macaroni and cheese meals for three local charities -- Greenhouse Ministries , The Journey Home, and Eagleville Food Bank. The project was managed in conjunction with The Outreach Program , a nonprofit organization devoted to solving food insecurity. We're all probably aware that mastery of a skill is thought to require hundreds or even thousands of hours of practice. This applies to the public utility sector as well. CUD is pleased to announce that three of our specialists recently completed an apprenticeship program through the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD). And we would add that the program required 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and up to 318 hours of technical instruction. Hat tip to TAUD for coverage in the latest issue of TN Utility News.

To get the ball rolling, a candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA certification, and at least three years of experience. On Wednesday, CUD held a ceremony for three of our employees who completed apprenticeship/development programs with the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts. Maintenance Technicians Hunter Helton and Jacob Stevenson finished their apprenticeships toward the role of Water Systems Operations Specialist. Wastewater Operator Devin Drew completed his track toward Wastewater Systems Operations Specialist. These programs involved approximately 4,000 hours of work – hands-on training and curriculum instruction – over two years. Members of CUD’s management, our Board of Commissioners, and the Tennessee Department of Labor were on hand to show their support. The timing is perfect. It's #DrinkingWaterWeek , and CUD recently posted its annual Consumer Confidence Report/Water Quality Report. Reliable, safe water is equal parts product and service -- and our distribution network keeps growing. CUD now operates more than 1,500 miles of pipe in Rutherford County.
