Our teammates recently took caring for their community to the next level by cleaning up the Reedy River, an important natural resource and scenic destination in South Carolina. Check out David Dodd’s story about how the #volunteer troop braved some challenging weather and wildlife to get the job done! Shout-out to our team members for using their group volunteer time off (and rallying some family members for help) to collaborate with Friends of the Reedy River and the City of Greenville on this effort. 👏 #ConsorImpact #VTO #volunteering
On June 14th, CONSOR Engineers’ team in Greer, South Carolina, served on a group volunteer clean-up of the Reedy River, a major focal point of the community. The primary goal of this clean-up effort was a timber debris blockage and trash along the riverbank that could only be accessed from the water. The volunteer troop consisted of 22 Consor teammates, 8 Consor family members, Friends Of The Reedy River (FoRR) organization members, and equipment operators from the City of Greenville, South Carolina, South Carolina. Consor’s local team has a unique mix of skills and equipment perfectly suited for this type of work. No strangers to uncomfortable and strenuous work conditions, our construction services crew dawned chest waders, towed an aluminum boat as they scoured the river for trash, and, at one point, discovered rolls of steel banding material weighing 150 pounds each. Our divers used underwater chain saws to cut fallen trees from the debris pile and rigged them to an excavator to be lifted into a waiting dump truck. Our surface crew consisted of corporate services folks and a few older teammates. Meanwhile, our family members walked the upper riverbank collecting numerous trash bags. This was the second time Consor teamed with the City and FoRR to conduct a successful Reedy River cleanup. Such efforts are vital for the environment and serve as excellent team-building events. Our team persevered through heat, poison ivy, spiders, snakes, and much more to complete the necessary work. Overcoming these obstacles together was a beautiful reward, strengthening our bond and commitment to our community. #consorimpact #iworkforconsor #cleanup #VTO #volunteering
