As night falls, our work continues on. We’ve had 500 of crews working today, and they were successful in restoring power to over 100,000 people within 24 hours of the start of yesterday’s storms. If you’re still without power, we’re on our way. We’re adding crews from Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia and Tennessee. Our goal is to make sure almost everyone has their power back on by tomorrow night. While crews are out, we ask for a little more patience. It’s not always easy to see the work our lineworkers and tree trimmers do. Sometimes the cause of an outage can be miles away from where you live. But rest assured, they’re out there working hard because they know you’re counting on them.

A little act of kindness can make a big impact in times like these. Whether you’re Michigan-born and raised, well-settled or here for a quick trip, the moments and days after a severe storm are critical to everyone’s safety, quality of life, and swift return to normalcy. We may not be able to control the weather, but we can control how we show up for one another. From our crews and storm team, first responders, local organizations, volunteers, and neighbors like you, count on us to come together when Michigan needs us most.

Many of our neighbors around Michigan are waking up in homes without electricity this morning. Yesterday’s weather packed a big punch, with wind gusts reaching 75 mph in many locations. Our crews got to work as soon as it was safe and made good progress, restoring power to 30 percent of our customers affected by the weather. We know our work isn’t done. We have 350 crews working on restoration today, with plans to add many more as they become available. Our efforts to restore power will continue until everyone affected has their lights back on. If you or a loved one is without power today, please take precautions to stay cool. Wear loose fitting clothing. Drink lots of water. Enjoy time at your local library. If you live near the Larkin Township Hall or Courtland Township Hall, please stop by for water and ice at 1 p.m. today.

Which “BFF” would you bring to work? We’re celebrating #NationalDogDay by showing off our super pup, Spot, and some more of his animal coworkers. Spot, our robotic dog, monitors a substation to inspect critical equipment with infrared/thermal technology. By identifying risk of failure earlier than ever, we can fix problems before they happen. See those tiny boxes in the sky? Those are line sensors, and they're a vital part of our commitment to a more reliable grid. The sensors use cutting edge technology to identify and prevent problems before they occur. This year alone, we're installing 3,000 sensors across the state, and, so far, they’re doing their job! In just the first quarter of this year, line sensors have prevented 95,160 minutes of customer outages - that's more than 65 days!

Meet David Allen. In the 1970s, he started at the Karn Plant and worked his way through various roles, finally achieving his lifelong dream of becoming a lineworker. One event from David’s near half-century of work sticks out. It was Easter weekend and David was out restoring power after a storm. As he was feeling upset about being away from his family and newborn son, two young girls came outside and thanked him with a plate of cookies for bringing back their electricity. “It’s the little things that make this job the best job in the world,” he reflects. After 47 years of service, David plans to retire this summer, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and kindness. We appreciate David and all lineworkers like him who ensure our communities stay powered and safe. Thank you, David, for your unwavering commitment!
