Thanks to David and Control Automation for the writeup on our PLCs! This article offers a quick, comprehensive tutorial to set up a #ControlByWeb device and I/O.
As far as tutorials go, this one was a little different - but no less fun! ControlByWeb makes I/O controllers and web relays. They contain logic functions, but also extensive online communication capabilities for remote alerting and data handling. One of the most interesting things (for me as a PLC guy) was that it's all handled via web server. No software to install. Connect a cable and go. I feel like this kind of equipment is an easier entry point for learning about web communication, like setting up MQTT broker coms, or email SMTP mail settings. Most PLCs can do all of this as well, but it's more of an advanced function that you learn WAY after all the I/O, HMIs, and motion programming. Instead, web communication is one of the core functionalities of this kind of controller, so you get to experience it right up front. Overall, this one was pretty neat, but I only got to cover the initial config and local I/O logic in this first article. Control Automation
