Part of our work includes building bridges between people and fostering connections that remind us of our shared humanity, despite our different nationalities and backgrounds. Recently, our team in Guatemala hosted a Rise Executive Panel to give students a chance to hear from Rise graduates and professionals while practicing skills for career preparation, like interviewing for jobs. Yusbi (pictured) is a Rise graduate who now works as a nurse and joined our panel of professionals to encourage students to consider their own goals and dreams for the future! Our collaboration with Rotary International, the Guatemala Literacy Project (GLP), isn't just about teaching children to read—it's about changing lives. Take Runawal B’alam Ya’, for example—a school that received textbooks in 2019 and recently bought new ones in February 2024 using their revolving textbook fund. Runawal B’alam Ya’ is proof that with dedication and support, schools can maintain their Textbook Program. But what about the long-term impact? As of 2024, there are now 50 schools throughout Guatemala that have been renewing their textbooks for 20 years or more.
