Today’s the day: Youth Speak for Themselves conversation portal is LIVE! Today, we celebrate a big step in youth-led change with the launch of this interactive portal. Absenteeism is a significant problem, but efforts to solve the issue often leave out the group it most impacts: young people. Now, thanks to Newark Opportunity Youth Network, that story is changing. Created by and for Newark’s youth, this portal brings their voices and insights on absenteeism and educational change directly to school leaders, policymakers, and YOU. Why are kids missing school? What can schools and communities do to help? We encourage everyone to explore their stories through the portal—an online platform designed to showcase the real voices and rich insights from a collection of recorded small-group conversations with Newark’s young people. MIT Center for Constructive Communication is building a culture of listening and shared understanding. Last week, members of the Cortico team went to Cambridge to train students on our conversation approach ahead the new realtalk@MIT program. Tomorrow, these Conversation Leaders are facilitating dialogue with incoming first-year undergraduate students. realtalk@MIT will give students the opportunity to share the values and experiences they bring to MIT as a first step toward building trust and connections among classmates and colleagues. Through 33 conversations with over 175 individuals in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Oklahoma, and Texas, we surfaced the personal impacts of the energy transition from communities historically linked to the fossil fuel economy 🔍 Highlights include: 🔵 8 major themes and various subthemes from local discussions. 🔵 Real voices and insightful narratives that outline the challenges, opportunities, hopes, and concerns about the climate transition. 🔵 Actionable insights for businesses and governments aiming for a just transition that respects community needs and concerns This project emphasizes a holistic approach to environmental policy, ensuring the transition enriches lives, not just economies. Cortico and NPR Member stations are on an exciting quest to answer these questions.   At Day 2 of the #NPRCorticoLaunch, we explored how Cortico's approach to combining small group dialogue and technology can be shaped to enhance local reporting. This cohort is getting ready to start unique conversation campaigns in their communities all around the U.S, elevating underheard perspectives as we move into the heat of election season.   We can't wait to see how this collaboration evolves and resonates nationwide. Today we're uniting representatives from over 10 NPR Member stations from around the country at MIT Media Lab for the #NPRCorticoLaunch! Crossing the Divide: A Tech-Enhanced Journalism Project will leverage Cortico's tools and methods to explore how Americans talk with one another and whether it’s possible, this election year, to bridge divides.   Over the next two days, the Cortico team will familiarize NPR station representatives on Cortico's approach as they start to design their local conversation campaigns.
