Events this weekend demonstrate the importance of civil democratic engagement. The launch of USAID Democracy, Rights, and Governance Bureau's groundbreaking new policy is timely indeed. https://lnkd.in/gD_V72dd Counterpart stands ready to support the policy's implementation through the work we do globally with communities who are on the forefront of protecting and preserving democracy. Pivot 1 of the strategy speaks to an agency-wide approach to strengthening democracy globally, exemplifying the visionary leadership that Administrator Power has demonstrated since assuming office. USAID is one of the most influential development actors, so the adoption of this comprehensive approach is encouraging and necessary to confront authoritarians who seek to undercut democracy. This is one element of the new policy, and Counterpart looks forward to its full implementation. Thank you, USAID, for demonstrating global leadership to ensure democracy thrives. #GlobalDev #InternationalDevelopment #USAID #Democracy #Governance #HumanRights #USAIDPolicy #DemocracyNow

“I always wanted to know who I am, where I come from, my ancestry,” said Flor de Luz Acosta, who was taken from El Salvador and adopted by an American family without her mother’s consent during the civil conflict in 1982. Decades later, Acosta was reunited with her biological family thanks to the work of Asociación Pro-Búsqueda, a Salvadoran organization that investigates cases of missing children and forced separation, with funding from Counterpart’s USAID Rights and Dignity project. Our funding enhances Pro-Búsqueda’s investigation and monitoring capabilities for cases like Acosta's. Read the heartfelt story of Acosta's reunion with her long-lost siblings who never stopped searching for her. 💗 https://lnkd.in/eVYmDK9y Gustavo D'Angelo Maria Jose V. Counterpart’s Promoting Advocacy and Rights project, funded by USAID, launched citizen-led advocacy plans through a series of events in April that gave historically marginalized and underrepresented communities an opportunity to present their concerns directly to policymakers. Their recommendations focus on three core issues related to equal rights, sustainable urbanization, and safeguarding the environment. ➡️https://lnkd.in/d2vzuHK8 Katie Croake Kourtney Pompi Iffat Ara Mehreen Farooq Tanya Azuaje #GlobalDev #Bangladesh #CivilSociety #SocialInclusion #Sustainability #EnvironmentalResilience
