The CDU is responsible for preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases like Salmonellosis, E. coli infections, influenza, COVID-19, whooping cough, West Nile Virus, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. The Public Health Bureau provides essential public health services including surveillance, disaster preparedness, diagnosing and addressing health problems, outreach, and education, and mobilizing community partnerships to identify, prevent, and solve health problems. The Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program engages in collaborative, community focused emergency health planning to address biological, chemical, radiological, or natural disaster events that result in public health threats or emergencies. The PHEP Chronic Disease Prevention Coordinator leads local efforts to increase health care and public health capacity to plan, prepare, respond to, and recover from broad range of public health threats. Additional duties include developing grant budgets and scopes of work, monitoring expenditures, and drafting reports. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus Program coordinates surveillance, prevention, and care services for individuals living with or at risk for HIV, sexually transmitted disease, and hepatitis C virus infections. The program also promotes risk reduction behaviors and engages the community to develop and strengthen systems. Additional duties include developing grant budgets and scopes of work, monitoring expenditures, and drafting reports.
