Our SafeNight Project ensures that survivors who need to relocate out of state have a safe haven during their transition. Here are the key details: 1. Hotel Accommodation: The SafeNight Project offers survivors a few nights’ stay in a secure hotel. This temporary refuge allows them to escape unsafe situations and gain some respite while they plan their next steps. 2. Out-of-State Relocation: Due to safety concerns, some survivors cannot remain in Colorado. Whether it’s to avoid traffickers, seek legal assistance, or access specialized services, relocating out of state is often necessary. SafeNight bridges this critical gap. 3. Decision-Making Support: Survivors face complex decisions during this vulnerable time. By providing a safe hotel stay, we give them the space to consider their options, connect with resources, and plan their next moves. Here is a map of the process Covered takes sex trafficking survivors through while they are in our program. Our program meets survivors where they are. Through a trauma informed, survivor informed, and empowerment-based program. We utilize evidence-based practices, we empower and honor every survivor toward a life of healing and self-sufficiency. How are traffickers luring people in? Traffickers are smart criminals, masters at manipulation. They will use social media, chatrooms and phone apps to get to know their victims and break into their social groups. They will spend a lot of time and effort gaining the trust of their potential victim but also their friends. At some point they will meet their victim face to face. In the beginning they will charm them and make empty promises. But a few short days later, they turn, using manipulation, violence and cruel tactics to keep victims from ever leaving. The above is especially true of street trafficking and romeo/boyfriending trafficking (see one of our previous posts about the differences). Familial trafficking happens within families and looks a bit different. Trafficker is equally likely to be male or female (mother, father, step-parent, uncle, aunt, sibling, etc.). Building Healthy Relationships: Survivors learn about boundaries, communication, and building trust. We emphasize healthy relationship dynamics and empower them to form connections based on mutual respect. 7. Problem Solving: Life is full of challenges.
