About us

Alan Crittenden started Crittenden Research Inc. in 1972 with a newsletter that was designed to support his real estate brokerage business. In 1982, he moved to Novato, where the company would have an office for the next 40 years. It was here that it reaches its height in terms of products, revenue, and number of employees. Alan moved to San Diego in 1993 and maintained two offices for the next 29 years. Jack Crittenden started his company, Cypress Magazines, Inc., in May 1991 with a dream, a desk, and $35,000 borrowed from Alan. While in law school at American University, Jack worked as a reporter for the undergraduate student newspaper. He later started a magazine for the law school — The American Jurist. He had a vision of publishing a national magazine that would empower students with news, advice and entertainment to help guide them through law school. On Oct. 1, 2020, Jack Crittenden acquired Crittenden Research, the company that his father, Alan, had founded in 1972, upon the retirement of Alan. Cypress and Crittenden Research merged and are operating under the name Crittenden Research.
