Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. Whenever you notice an unsafe act or situation going on, you need to speak up, even if it seems like the situation may not directly impact you. Use your Stop Work Obligation and don’t be shy about pointing out potential issues to others. People get distracted, they have different levels of experience with tasks, and might even be wary of asking questions. When you take the lead and speak up, you are doing the right thing for yourself and your colleagues. We can help encourage everyone to speak up by reacting positively if others speak up to us, or by saying something as simple as “good catch!” If you notice a coworker has spoken up about a potential hazard. Remember that ultimately, we are all working with the common goal of having everyone get home safe and healthy at the end of the day.   At MYR Group, Safety is Life.    #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message.      We’ve all heard the saying “two heads are better than one.” On a construction site, one of the many ways we can smartly apply this concept is by having spotters help drivers during the operation of heavy equipment and large vehicles. When done correctly, a spotter can save lives and prevent injuries by acting as a second set of eyes and ears, providing important information about the vehicle’s immediate surroundings to the driver when they’re backing up a vehicle or maneuvering it through a crowded space. Keep in mind: Proper preparation, good communication, correct positioning, high-visibility clothing, and focus are all essential elements for successful spotting.   At MYR Group, Safety is Life.      #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message.    Construction sites are dynamic work environments – as we work, and as others are working around us, we need to continually assess our situation and make adjustments as needed. When you’re assessing your work set-up, take your time. Look above, below, in front of, behind, and to the sides of your work area. Then, go beyond assessing just in relation to your body – look all around heavy equipment and other items in your work area to ensure there’s nothing potentially hazardous in the vicinity. Your situational awareness will not only keep you safe, but empower you to better perform your tasks as well. At MYR Group, Safety is Life.    #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. Equipment inspection is a critical aspect of safety culture. From heavy equipment vehicles to the smallest hand tools and all their related parts and accessories, everything we use needs to be in safe, working condition. Even a minor defect can create hazardous conditions. Whether you’re doing a walk-around of a forklift or looking over a hammer, you need to comprehensively check the equipment and use a questioning attitude throughout the inspection. Don’t underestimate the importance of checking over your tools and equipment before getting started! This proactive step helps protect you and your team members on the job. Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. Stretching is important every day, regardless of the expected physical difficulty of the tasks you’re handling. By stretching, you’re warming up your muscles and increasing their flexibility and resilience. Your daily stretch routine should include a mix of both static and dynamic stretches. When stretching, pay attention to your body and how it’s feeling. Over time, you can try increasing the motion or exertion of a stretch as your muscle strength and flexibility increases. You also need to pay attention to your breathing while you stretch. Deep, steady breathing helps get oxygen to your muscles and increases blood flow. When your muscles are tense or shortened, they are more susceptible to injury. Start your workday off on the right (and safe!) foot by properly prepping your body for the job ahead. Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. With 27 bones, 27 joints, 34 muscles, and hundreds of ligaments, tendons, blood vessels, and nerves, the human hand is a crucial tool not only on the job site, but in the day-to-day as well, so it’s crucial we protect our hands when we work. Doing so means: • Wearing the appropriate gloves for the task you are doing. MYR Group provides gloves for many different types of tasks, including cut-resistant, rubber, leather, high-voltage, and low-voltage gloves. • Ensuring your gloves fit correctly – not so tight that they restrict movement, but snug enough to be secure on your hands. • Not using your hands to remove things such as protruding nails or shards of glass without gloves, even when performing tasks that don’t require them. • Protecting your hands from environmental conditions, from cold weather that could lead to frostbite to hot weather that causes sweat and decreases your ability to grip objects. We use our hands all day every day, so we need to make sure we don't become complacent in protecting them. At MYR Group, Safety is Life. #MYRGroup #Safety #ElectricalConstruction #ConstructionSafety

Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. The National Safety Council recognizes June as National Safety Month, an especially good time to purposefully refocus and reflect on the fact that safety is always everyone’s responsibility. All accidents are preventable – with the correct controls, procedures, and our complete focus, we can keep ourselves and our colleagues safe. Use the STAR method – Stop, Think, Act, Review – to ensure you’re taking the time to focus on safety and effectively take the steps needed to create a safe work area. Getting home safely at the end of the day depends on all of us staying focused, communicating effectively, and acting safely at all times.
