Learning, connecting, making visible, and building public support across our cultural sectors.
About us
Two out of three Maine residents participate in cultural activities. When cultural activity is happening in large and small ways throughout an area, it creates surprising ripple effects of benefits, even for those who don’t participate directly. Vibrant libraries, historical societies, historic buildings and districts, theaters, museums, concerts, festivals, and creative industries mean more energy and life in a community, more tourists, more businesses, and more young people and families. CAM is the first coordinated, statewide industry alliance advancing the visibility and capacity of our diverse statewide cultural sector via collective learning, research, communications, and advocacy.

The Cultural Alliance of Maine recently joined the New England Foundation for the Arts’ new Director and the Maine Arts Commission Director on a multi-state cultural tour to learn about innovative activities and initiatives happening across the region. As a participant, CAM was able to witness firsthand the conversations and connections taking place between arts and cultural leaders. This hands-on experience provided valuable insights that will help the Alliance identify key issues and opportunities to address within Maine’s creative ecosystem. We are grateful for the chance to be a part of this collaborative exploration, which has strengthened their understanding of the broader regional landscape and surfaced new ideas for how the CAM can better support and elevate Maine’s vibrant arts and culture community moving forward. Thank you for being a part of the Alliance!

For many cultural organizations, however, concrete steps to drive progress and honor commitments to equity and I cousin still feel unclear. Join us for a one-hour convening with Dr. Idella Glenn, Vice President of Equity, Inclusion, and Community Impact at USM. We will discuss efforts that have the potential to transform cultural institutions into truly representative and responsive entities that celebrate, serve, and engage diverse communities. Dr. Glenn will share strategies that cultural organizations can implement in 2024 to foster empathy, create inclusive spaces, and meaningfully impact community well being. https://lnkd.in/e4Q-yuNX
