Thank you for joining us last week to celebrate music, poetry, and Chicagoans' stories with our second run of D-Composition x Love Is... at the South Shore Cultural Center for Gateways Music Festival in association with Eastman School of Music. Dynamic performances brought laughter, tears, and nostalgia, taking our audience through the many definitions of love. Thank you to Caitlin Edwards for inviting us to participate in the Chamber Music Series and to Gateways for giving us a platform to showcase our work. We want to extend a special thanks to our partners at the South Side Home Movie Project for allowing us to showcase archival home movies of South Side residents throughout the performance. Thank you also to the Music Performance Trust Fund for supporting this program. We can't wait until we can do this all again.

Tomorrow, our highly acclaimed show D-Composition x Love Is... returns! This time, we're partnering with the historic Gateways Music Festival in association with Eastman School of Music to share this awe-inspiring production with the South Shore Cultural Center. Just in time for poetry month, we're reuniting with our poetry & storyteller friends avery r. young, Krista Franklin, Davon Clark, Raych Jackson, & Diamond Sharp. We'll explore the many definitions of love by pairing poetry with the works of Black composers such as Sharon Udoh, Ahmed Al Abaca, Daniel Bernard Roumain, & Jessie Montgomery. Plus, throughout the show we'll showcase archival home movie footage from our collaborators at the South Side Home Movie Project. This event is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there! https://lnkd.in/ddVkfYBy

Last Sunday, we kicked off our year of public programs in a big way with our Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut for the pre-concert performance for CSO MusicNOW. A huge thanks to Jessie Montgomery for inviting us to be a part of this momentous occasion. The energy in the room was out of this world, and everyone showed up for us in a big way. Another surprise happened when composer Daniel Bernard Roumain attended to hear us perform crowd favorite Klap Ur Handz from his String Quartet No. 5 Rosa Parks! Khelsey, Anya, Wilfred, and Malik put on an electrifying performance that everyone is still raving about. It was an afternoon to remember. Thank you to everyone for making our CSO debut extra special!

Thank you to Leo Burnett for hosting us for their Joy series! We love what you are doing. We appreciate you for amplifying Black composers and musicians for Black History Month and for being such incredible hosts 🎻

Who we are is intrinsic to what we make | Multicultural Intelligence Practice Lead | ERG, Community and Identity Advocate | Committed to actions with Impact on people, culture and creativity

The Joy Series from Leo Burnett was launched in 2021 inspired by the idea that ‘Joy is an act of resistance’ (attributed Toi Derricotte or Audre Lorde) There is no better expression of joy than through music and music has been a vehicle for change and resistance for centuries. Music also celebrates culture and heritage - it's pride, love and community. Because of all that #TheJoySeries runs during every heritage month in celebration and honor of our folks and their heritage.   This #BlackHistoryMonth we featured the penetratingly beautiful performance from the D-Composed ensemble: Founder & Executive/Artistic Director Kori Coleman @Caitlin Edwards, Wilfred Farquharson, Lindsey Sharpe and Khelsey Zarraga D-Composed is a Chicago-based, Black chamber music collective started in 2017 with the mission to uplift and empower society through the music of Black composers & acts as a bridge between the past and present to the future of representation, music-centered experiences, and the communal power of Black composers and their impact. #Link in comments to connect with them. It was a magical and mesmerizing hour lead by our amazing hostess Chelsea Robinson. I heard from so many folks that this music was felt deeply and it left many people in tears. The folks in our Chicago office gave them a standing ovation - a Joy Series first.   We partner with Chris Clark and all our friends Squeak E. Clean Studios to hire artists and musicians with diverse heritages and identities to perform. This performance kicked off our 4th year of this program – we’ve featured 41 acts, reached over 1600 employees across Publicis Groupe and have invested ~120k back into the industry. Plus the #Joy meter is at 8 kajillion which is really the only data point that matters. . . {Video is from our hybrid session with D-Composed last week. It shows the 4 ensemble members, playing their instruments, sitting in a semi-circle facing the camera. Behind them is a screen that features their logo in white on a red background} . #ThisIsDEI #CultureShift #CultureBuilding #Changemakers #CreateGreaterThan

It's been quiet on this page for a while, so we would like to re-introduce ourselves so you know more about who we are and how we do what we do. Here are some fast facts about us: We're a Black chamber music collective. We are storytellers, educators, and innovators. We bring our performances straight to the community. With no set physical location, you can find us in churches, schools, galleries, museums, and gardens. We EXCLUSIVELY feature the works of Black composers. Consider donating so we can continue changing the way classical music feels and looks for the communities we serve. https://lnkd.in/g5YMBhTj
