The August issue of D Magazine is here! Every summer, the D Magazine editors curate a list of the best Dallas has to offer: The Best of Big D. And this year being our 50th in print, it’s the perfect time to give a little extra shine to the people and places that make Dallas so special. Flip through the pages to find Dallas staples that stand the test of time and newcomers that leave a lasting impression. Next, read about the people preparing the meals your kids eat at DISD schools. Between breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner, learn how those in the kitchens avoid food waste, all while prioritizing nutrition and making meals for over 114,000 picky kids. Finally, meet Linda Garcia, once an educator and speaker demystifying the stock market for people of color. Now Garcia is on the verge of becoming a state representative with the same goals: representing those who may not have had access to politics and opening the door. There’s all that and more waiting for you inside the August issue of D Magazine. Pick up a copy at a grocery store near you or subscribe to get the issue here: https://lnkd.in/gY9B3AT7

Zac Crain, the executive editor of D Magazine, was 50 years old when he died last Tuesday. He worked for us for the last 17 years, during which he wrote some of the best stories ever printed in our pages. That includes his piece about the 2013 explosion in his hometown of West-comma-Texas, but the profiles stand out: Charley Pride, Erykah Badu, Mike Rhyner, Tony Dorsett, Corky Cunningham, Troy Aikman. No other writer in Dallas could do what Zac did. In the whole country, there might be a small handful. This is not an exaggeration. We’ll miss him every day. Visit the link below to read remembrances from his friends and colleagues.

The July issue of D Magazine is here! Don’t we all peek into the lit windows of neighbors and strangers, trying to guess who’s inside and how they live their seemingly covetable lives? In our July cover story, we knocked on a few doors to find out. Next, flip the page to discover how the Trinity Groves food park turned into a culinary ghost town ten years after it was founded. Plus, learn what’s ahead for the area, with a revival in the plans that includes new talent and a new attitude. Finally, get to know Rebar Missouri, who fled his home in Kurdistan to escape Saddam Hussein’s reign—and ended up finding his calling at the Circle Grill. To read the July issue, pick up a copy at a grocery store near you or subscribe to D Magazine here: https://lnkd.in/gY9B3AT7
