Had a blast at my first INFORMS event last week - Thomas Koulopoulos gave an excellent keynote, and the Edelman Gala highlighted amazing operations research and analytics work done by 6 teams across the globe. Key takeaways include: 1. Trust will become more elusive - as AI continues to generate content, how will we know what's real and what's not? Lots of conversation around how to encourage critical thinking. 2. Foundational ML is still necessary - these practices lay the foundations for more advanced techniques, you can't skip over these steps. 3. Standardization is key - both for hiring and interoperability, we have to agree on the core skills for different job levels and disseminate it across industries. Shoutout to Elena Gerstmann, PhD, ACC, FASAE, CAE, Pooja Dewan, David Hunt, Julie Swann, and the rest of the INFORMS team who put an a fabulous event!
