Every day, more than 50 young people age out of #FosterCare. With nowhere to turn for support, these youth are at a high risk of negative outcomes, such as homelessness and unemployment. Last month, staff from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption gathered to pack Fresh Start Kits for Caring for Kids, Inc. These kits are filled with household supplies that help ease the transition to adulthood for youth who age out of care. Thank you to our staff who donated items and their time to make a difference ❤️

Yesterday, Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption board chair, Rob Geen, testified on Capitol Hill at the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means on Title IV-B reauthorization. His expertise in policy and child welfare financing added significant value to the "Strengthening Child Welfare and Protecting America's Children" hearing. After being placed in #FosterCare due to abuse and parental substance use, Preston spent five long years waiting for a #ForeverFamily.  Fortunately, Preston’s journey changed when he was referred to the Foundation’s signature program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, and was adopted by his foster parents, Melissa and David. Today, Preston has the love and stability of a permanent home ❤️ "Everyone that did help me, helped me a lot and I never thought I would get to this point," shared Preston. The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption works every day to raise awareness around the urgent need for foster care adoption. Part of our efforts is scaling our signature adoption program, Wendy's Wonderful Kids. Through this program, the Foundation supports the hiring of adoption professionals, known as recruiters, who use an evidence-based, child-focused model to find the right family for every child in their care. The model is up to 3x more effective in finding a permanent family for the youth it serves, including sibling groups, children with special needs and teenagers.
