KEEPING OUR PROMISE TO AMERICA'S VETERANS
About us
DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is a leading nonprofit that provides a lifetime of support for veterans of all generations and their families. Every year, we help more than 1 million veterans in positive, life-changing ways by helping them access benefits they earned, like healthcare, education and disability, and connecting them to meaningful employment opportunities. We are committed to ensuring that the men and women who stood up for America have the tools, resources and opportunities they need to competitively enter the job market and secure meaningful employment. DAV recognizes the value, talent, education and work ethics that veterans add to the workforce. Through our partnership with RecruitMilitary, DAV sponsors career fairs, including virtual events, to connect veterans with employers nationwide who are committed to hiring them. DAV is the nation’s most resourceful veterans service organization, keeping the promise to support America’s veterans. Learn more at www.DAV.org.

Last year, we wrote about Port Chicago in DAV magazine. Though these 256 Black sailors are no longer with us, exoneration finally gives the families their long awaited justice: http://dav.la/3u8. Surviving family members can work with the Department of Veterans Affairs on past benefits that may be owed. If you are a surviving family member of Port Chicago and have questions about VA benefits, please contact a service office nearest you: benefitsquestions.org.

In February, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced plans to expand locations and time frames that it presumes exposure to Agent Orange and other herbicides. Under this proposal, the VA would add locations in the United States, Canada and India to the existing presumptives for Agent Orange in Vietnam, Cambodia, Johnston Atoll, Guam, American Samoa, Korea, Laos and Thailand. A presumptive of exposure lowers the burden of proof required, helping fast-track disability benefits for veterans exposed to certain toxins. This expansion will help veterans who served in specified locations receive health care and benefits for certain cancers and chronic conditions. DAV benefits advocates at all levels provide best-in-class service, free of charge, and are ready to help file a VA disability claim. If you have questions about this proposed expansion or any other questions about veterans benefits, please contact your nearest DAV service office by visiting benefitsquestions.org.
