A big thanks to our friend & partner, Leah Soibel for moderating an insightful dialogue with Dina on the state of antisemitism in Ibero-America & the history of Latino-Jewish relations. We are so grateful to Evan Goldman for organizing the event & S. Gabriel Baredes PA for representing the Israeli Consulate. Thanks to Mayor of Hallandale Beach Joy Cooper & Laurie Flink from Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's office for joining us. Shout out to my AJC colleagues, Wendi Lipsich & Sydney Gorodetsky Rubin. We are so appreciative to all of the dedicated allies who attended: Ana Valladares, Myriam Goldman, Arminda "Mindy" Figueroa, MBA, CSA, Karen Zemel, Juan Saavedra, M.P.S, Jessy Allain Mena & so many more! When they are not at the J, you can find them at the Child Life Zone or on the Oncology/Hematology floor of the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital. Meet Doug & Jackie. They are on a mission to bring smiles to children with cancer and their siblings with our Sunrise on Wheels program. A year-round initiative where they visit hospitals with The Beverly S. Bachrach Trunk filled with a treasure trove of crafts, toys, and activities that take kids' families to a better space. It’s been nearly a year since they began this heartwarming journey, and both Doug and Jackie agree—there’s nothing more rewarding than bringing smiles to these incredible children and helping them forget their worries, even if just for a moment. For the kids, for their families, and us, it makes all the difference in the world. #sunriseonwheels #childhoodcancerawareness #sunriseassociationn #dpjcc #sunrisedaycamp

💛 This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we honor the incredible children who inspire us. At Sunrise Day Camp South Florida and Sunrise on Wheels at the DPJCC, we bring the joy of childhood back so that these young heroes can take a break from the challenges of cancer and be kids again. Their resilience, hope, and joy define our mission, and with every smile, we celebrate the magic of childhood they deserve. Join us in supporting their courage and spreading the joy they bring to our hearts. #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #Sunriseonwheels #sunrisedaycamp #gogold To learn about Sunrise Day Camp South Florida, visit https://lnkd.in/e6Xk9emi

Howard Fleischer, director of special services at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center in Davie, said his organization is seeing an increase in senior citizens visiting the JCC’s free lunch program, which operates on a state Department of Elder Affairs grant. “We have noticed more seniors this summer attending lunch than in past summers,” he said. “Usually our numbers go up when the snowbirds come down.” “Our program helps our seniors indirectly with the rising costs through the programs and speakers we offer,” he said. ”Our program is designed to combat loneliness, get out of the house, (and) interact with others.” “We know food costs have been rising for a long time,” he said. “For some people, this may be their only meal for the day.” “I know some of them don’t even have air conditioning,” Fleischer added. “Spending the day here — it helps.” Via Sun Sentinel Media Group
