Building supportive peer communities is a fantastic way for organizations to support their members and build the personal connections they need to thrive - nice work AIA Virginia! How does your organization foster difficult conversations - or build stronger community connections?
I was so happy to Chair the Mid-Career Roundtable at #ArchEx, AIA Virginia's annual conference on architecture in Richmond. In a season of change, these leaders are juggling a lot: increased demands of work, family, aging parents; changing roles or starting new businesses; leading at work and in the community. But despite these headwinds, many expressed pride in prioritizing life and wellbeing for themselves and their teams - and they're excited by the results! Brave, vulnerable, and engaged, some members shared their struggles while others offered strategies that help them thrive like: - Listen more. Speak less. - Set boundaries to prioritize focus. - There are many paths to a good answer. - Mentor, up and down. - Plan ahead to find balance. AIA Virginia hosts Roundtables to support architects at all stages of their careers and promote community connection through facilitated conversations by firm size and career stage. It's one of my favorite AIA VA and #ArchEx programs - if you haven't joined one yet, you're missing out! * Thanks to Asa Eslocker for the great pics! #AIA #AIAVA #ArchEx #architecture #leadershipdevelopment #peersupport #personalgrowth
