Welcome to Part 1 of our series detailing DP's Early Intervention (EI) journey. Let’s begin: Referral for Services! Research shows that the first three years of life are critical for development and learning. If you have concerns about your child’s development, they may qualify for EI services. Referrals can be made by anyone, either online, by phone, email, or fax. To refer a child or family, you’ll need to provide the child’s name, date of birth, address, and parent’s phone number. Once a child is referred, an Intake Coordinator will reach out by phone to discuss EI and schedule an evaluation. For families who live in Adams County and Elbert County, referrals are sent to the EI Colorado Care Navigation team. In celebration of our 60th Anniversary, Developmental Pathways is excited to partner with Douglas County Fair and Rodeo for Disability Awareness Day on Sunday, July 28! All tickets to Douglas County Fair and Rodeo are free, and individuals with disabilities can register for the Exceptional Rodeo, which pairs real cowboys, cowgirls, and local rodeo queens with children and adults with disabilities in an adaptive rodeo event where they will work together through a series of modified rodeo events. This month commemorates the 25th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Olmstead v L.C., which determined that unjustified segregation of persons with disabilities constitutes discrimination in violation of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Olmstead determined that individuals with disabilities have the right to receive publicly funded services in the most integrated settings possible based on the individual's requirements.
