Many Americans learned about last week's #NATOSummit on social media. From influencers. It was part of NATO's strategy. Does this mean now we all need an #influencer strategy? I need to know what you think... The Embassy of Italy in the US is teaming up with National Digital Roundtable and Social Driver on an amazing event next week. We are bringing together influencers in our Nation's Capital with a combined following of millions to discuss the #creatoreconomy alongside top government officials, media outlets and nonprofit brands. 🤫 I wish I could tell you their names. You know many of them. But Andreas Sandre told me I'm not allowed to spoil it. 🤫 But we will post a recap and photos after. I plan to ask them about changes to the top social platforms, how AI is impacting creators, and where the media landscape is going. I'm going to ask them your questions too. What do you want to know from some of the country's top influencers about how to partner with them, or what drives engagement in today's environment? Please post below or message me directly. #digitalroundtable #socialmedia

Why did Jennifer Coolidge make a special appearance at our latest National Digital Roundtable event? (If you look close, you can see her!) The White Lotus and Legally Blonde star showed up on-screen in a short-form video that broke through the noise: a Motion Picture Association Instagram Reel celebrating the Fourth of July (h/t Becca D. and Patrick Kane). Social Driver launched the National Digital Roundtable to build a community of digital leaders, innovators and policy shapers, and to help us all find clarity in a time of uncertainty. A few takeaways from our participants: ⚡ Everyone used to ask me to help them go viral. Now they're asking me to help them get on Tiktok. ⚡ What I used to call short-form is now long-form. If it's over one minute, it's dead on social. ⚡ The new engagement metric to pay attention to is whether your audience is sending the video to their friends. ⚡ Creative partnerships are essential - even cabinet secretaries are pitching influencers to reach the right people. ⚡ Our thought leaders are now asking the digital team to help them launch a Tiktok account. 👀 👀 👀 Keep your eyes peeled for a full article including some of our favorite short-form videos from around DC. 👀 👀 👀 Huge thanks to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for their partnership, and especially to Rachel Reh who served as an extraordinary host and presenter for this event. If you want to ask our participants a question or host a future event, let me know.

Comms + Marketing Leader for Mission-Driven Organizations

🎥Thank you Anthony Shop and the National Digital Roundtable for inviting me to this great conversation yesterday on short-form video content and trends! It was powerful to hear from my fellow comms + marketing colleagues in the field on how they’re utilizing this strategy to reach their goals, and to bring some actionable takeaways back to our small-but-mighty team at Center for Adoption Support and Education. 🤗Bonus that I got to sit only one chair away from my former Flamboyan Foundation teammate Rachel Tringali Marston, and that I ran into my old friend Mike Jackson in the lobby of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, heading to another event! Mike and I graduated from the excellent Public Diplomacy Masters program at USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism an undisclosed number of years ago — he was part of the first graduating class ever, and I was in the second! cc Nicholas Cull ☀️Not a bad way to spend a blistering hot Thursday afternoon in DC.

  • Social media’s harmful effects on young peoples’ mental health has been a topic of conversation for years. Is it time for a social media ban for children and teens? It’s complicated. National Digital Roundtable held a discussion recently at the American Psychological Association's Washington, D.C. office focusing on youth safety in the digital age, particularly the potential risks of social media content, features, and functions on youth mental health. “It’s hard to find a topic more important and relevant than this one,” said Anthony Shop, chairman of the National Digital Roundtable. “It’s why we wanted to bring the research of the APA before a group of leaders ranging from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Center for SafeSport, to Pinterest and Elizabeth Dole Foundation. These issues cannot be solved in silos.”

How do we keep kids safe online? It’s not an easy question to answer. National Digital Roundtable partnered with the American Psychological Association to unpack this complex issue. We will share some amazing takeaways soon! But in the meantime, thank you to the incredible participants from organizations including Pinterest, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, The Trevor Project, U.S. Center for SafeSport, Elizabeth Dole Foundation, inseparable, National Governors Association and more. #mentalhealth #youth #youthsafety

  • Last week, we hosted a roundtable with Free the Facts about Washington's Gen Z Challenge. Check out what we learned:

Communications and Marketing @ Free the Facts | Editorial, Social Media, Brand Storytelling

Last week, Free the Facts had the opportunity to host the National Digital Roundtable and digital communicators and content creators from across the District to talk through Washington’s Gen Z Challenge and how to create meaningful connections with this audience. Here’s what we learned: Authenticity is key to connecting with Gen Z: As Meg Kilgore from Social Driver shared, Gen Z can spot inauthentic content within seconds. To foster authenticity and create content that resonates, The Washington Post Alexandra Fayer Delgado highlighted how important it is for brands to communicate not just what they do but why they do it. To build trust, Grubhub’s Dominic S. emphasized how important it is for communicators to demonstrate the impact their brand has on real people. “Faces are the new logos”: This generation often connects with the people behind the brand rather than just the brand itself. Brynne Krispin of Cause Fokus shared how personal accounts or messaging from brand executives on LinkedIn can lead to more connections and conversions than content coming from brand pages. From executives, staff, subject matter experts, brand ambassadors, and creators, to people from the communities they serve, organizations can create real connections by highlighting the faces that make up the brand. Find the faces authentic to your brand: TikTok creator Patrick Kelly emphasized that brands should be intentional about the creators they are partnering with. While communicators know their brand goals, creators know what resonates with their audiences. Communicators should think about influencer strategy more in terms of intentionality and long-term goals versus one-off transactions. TikTok creator Maria Comstock also shared how helpful it can be for brands to have open and honest conversations with creators – so both the brand and the creator can be successful. Media literacy is crucial to combating misinformation: Marianna Pecora of Voters of Tomorrow noted how important media literacy is for young voters across the country to be informed on the issues that matter to them. Freedom Forum's AJ Neuharth-Keusch shared the importance of empowering readers to evaluate news confidently and make decisions for themselves by creating content on how to spot misinformation. Thank you so much to all of our attendees for joining this insightful discussion and to Anthony Shop for leading our roundtable!
