The California Public Utilities Commission voted yesterday to implement updated #communitysolar rules. Erin Stone from the LAist reported on the decision. "Brandon Smithwood, with solar company Dimension Renewable Energy , said the rule doesn’t necessarily end community solar, but that the federal funding is key to his hope for it ultimately growing in California. He was part of that coalition that developed an alternative community solar proposal to avoid the “cost shift,” but the state ultimately rejected that proposal. “'There’s an opportunity to take that quarter billion to make a down payment on something that can be evolved into the vibrant community solar market we were all working towards...'" https://lnkd.in/eRqiNrqT

Outstanding editorial by the San Francisco Chronicle ahead of an expected vote this week by the California Public Utilities Commission on the future of #California's #communitysolar program. "Community solar is a win-win: more clean energy available to a wider range of people. These projects can reduce the need for larger facilities and expensive long-distance transmission infrastructure, limiting some of the uglier adverse impacts of the transition to green energy. California's broad community solar coalition continues to press for changes that will ensure all Californians can participate in the clean energy transition. “We don’t think that this program should have the utilities be in charge of selecting the projects. We have a decade of experience of that happening, and the program just kind of dead-ends. The utilities are fundamentally not motivated to make these programs succeed.
