Move over news about Google's pivot on cookie deprecation. Arguably the bigger news this week is: "Oracle’s $115 million privacy settlement could change industry data collection methods" "In addition to the payment, Oracle has agreed to stop tracking users in various ways. Privacy advocates applauded the settlement." This could be a seismic event in the web advertising economy as the judgement in this case and Oracle's decision to end this business practice establishes clear liability for so many other companies which consumers have never heard of but play a role in the digital advertising supply chain. We need transparency now! Claire Atkin David Gehring Mitchell Baker https://lnkd.in/evZMBdVf

It's time.
It's time for everyone interested in a civil society and functioning democracy, which depends on a trustworthy information economy, to get in the fight and help save the local news industry. There are people who are actively trying to destroy all that has enabled the United States to survive, evolve and even thrive. They need to be defeated and it starts with a healthy local news industry dedicated to providing us all a trusted understanding of our world at the local level. It's time. https://lnkd.in/gYgeNHaU

Distributed Media Lab reposted this
Local News publishers stand out as a potential beneficiary of this new web economy. Local audiences tend to navigate directly to local news websites and that direct navigation could insulate the local media property from such dramatic changes in search and social. Advertisers should recognize the value of Local Media's authentic and engaged audiences. Vertical publishers need to start building syndication to Local Media partners to reach those authentic and engaged audiences also! Distributed Media Lab is here to help!! Local Media Association

As Google rolls out #AI search to U.S users, some publishers are looking to rivals like OpenAI and third-party vendors like TollBit to monetize content. Whereas, independent sites brace for carnage.
