The DLC will engage as a vendor at the Mid-Cumberland Resource Fair, hosted by The Arc Tennessee, this Thursday, August 29th. We will share resources, program details, and case studies of our work to enhance support for families, educators, administrators, and community partners who serve students with disabilities. We can't wait to see you there! #SpecialEducation #EquitableEducation #TennesseeTeachers

Reimagining inclusive education.
About us
All children can learn. We partner with teachers and leaders to make sure they do. The Diverse Learners Cooperative is a nonprofit organization that connects teachers and leaders with professional learning, resources, and networks that improve outcomes for diverse learners and increase teacher retention. Through DLC Learning Communities, we establish spaces for collaborative learning. We convene educators to learn and develop new ideas, afford opportunities to take an idea, practice it, and bring it back to the group. Through these Learning Communities, teachers and leaders develop ideas and processes for solving complex challenges that are inevitable when building inclusive classrooms and schools. We learn together faster and do better when we have space, resources, and people to drive us forward. Through DLC School and System Supports, we help leaders improve school systems that enable diverse learners and their teachers to thrive. We partner with schools, networks or districts to collaboratively identify opportunities that are highest leverage in improving diverse learner outcomes - with a specific focus on educator support and effectiveness. We start partnerships with understanding the needs of the system and the people within it, then align on goals that would improve student and teacher access. We support implementation of these goals through coaching, training, PLC facilitation, resource development, or technical assistance. Schools need and value the eyes of a partner that can spot blindspots in access for diverse learners and then are open to the support they need to fill those gaps or establish new ways. Finally, we share our work, learnings, and new ideas to impact diverse learners outside of our immediate influence. We’re developing new ways of doing this work, but we’re also able to learn so much from the schools and teams we serve. We capture these learning in new resources, tools, templates that educators can use right away.

Many school districts have partnered with universities or the Tennessee Grow Your Own Center to address teacher shortages. Still, our latest report indicates diverse learner educator pipelines can present unique challenges. What's one strategy YOUR school or district has used to strengthen its SPED and ML teacher pipelines? #TeacherRetention #TennesseeTeachers #EquitableEducation #DiverseLearnersCoop

We are partnering with Explore! Community School to spotlight co-teaching models. So far this year, we have discussed the vital aspects of co-teaching, explored various modes of collaboration, and laid the groundwork for robust co-teaching relationships. We are excited about the impact these teachers will make this year! #NashvilleTeachers #TennesseeTeachers #CoTeaching

We recently led Strive Collegiate Academy’s full school team in developing new strategies to increase core content access for all learners in their school. Using the Universal Design for Learning framework, Strive’s team engaged in productive and joyful lesson preparation for the first week of school. We look forward to working alongside this team throughout this year to increase access for all! #PrefessionalDevelopmentForTeachers #NashvilleTeachers #TennesseeTeachers #NashvilleNonprofit

So how can we retain diverse learner teachers in Tennessee? We’ve thought of 3 opportunities… - Include special education and ML teacher perspectives in policy and strategy initiatives. - Design effective models for clinical practice that account for variation in licensure pathway and school profile. - Equip school leaders with the knowledge and competencies required to support novice special education and ML teachers in their school buildings. What’s one thing diverse learner educators love? Measurable goals. The school year doesn’t officially start until we know what we’re measuring. This year, we are focusing on coming together. We are making plans that come alongside schools (instead of behind or ahead) and offer radically practical support, expanding teacher and leader capacity to serve ALL learners. Internally, that means focusing on building tools and protocols that allow us to sustainably scale supports to reach more schools and consistently share what we learn. Externally, it means you'll see us a lot more! Whether through bite-sized professional learning opportunities, community events, or at your schools, we're excited about new ways to engage and support school teams. What are your goals for this school year? Share them in the comments. #SchoolYearGoals #SchoolLeadership #TeachersSupportTeachers #DiverseLearners #TennesseeTeachers
