  • Excited to have our team down in New mexico this month. Their market is less then $1B but overall the SW is a great place. Hard to have a bad time in hiking around the deserts and canyons of that region. Between AZ and TX we think NM at some point will be key for interstate commerce

DONT SLEEP ON CANNABIS EVENTS/CONFERNCES/EXPOS! I am not saying you need to attend everyone in your area each month. But outside of virtual networking and sales calls, IRL is the next best thing. And I would argue IRL is actually better then virtually for closing the deal or starting the relationship. And those goes for Licensed Operators (Cultivation, Manufacturing, Retail etc.) looking for solutions to their business needs. As well as Ancillary Professional Service Providers (Remote #CFO, Insurance, Payroll HR, Marketing, Tax #CPA, Banking, Lending, Investing, Real Estate, Equipment, Recruiting) looking to provide solutions to their clients business needs. I was not in the regulated market in the "Golden Era" of regulated cannabis. Which I have been told was some where between 2011 and 2021. So I agree that the EVENTS/CONFERNCES/EXPOS may have smaller attendance with smaller party budgets. But if you are serious about business development. And humble enough to try and learn from every person you meet. The positive ROI is there for your marketing/advertising budget spend. A good example of DOPE CFO Certified Advisors participating at these events is happening this month. My teammates Tressa Silvey, CPA and Lisa Zimmerman Morstad, MBA, CPA, Ed.D.(she/her) will be speaking at Lucky Leaf Expo in New Mexico. Some other great professionals I see also speaking are Teresa Kearney, Justin Esquivel, Rick Rainbolt - Entrepreneur, Daniel Mondello, Allison Benedict, Rob Sanchez CSP-PO, PMI-ACP, Laura Adams and Monica Meihack Hope to see some familiar faces there and start to build familiarity with.

  • 🚨 Attention Cannabis business owners! 🌿 Despite all the buzz about rescheduling, the IRS has made it crystal clear: Section 280E still applies to all Cannabis businesses. That means you're still facing those sky-high effective tax rates, potentially up to 70% or more. Here's the scoop: ❌ No premature celebrations: Even if you're hearing about potential rescheduling, don't jump the gun. The IRS is explicitly saying that until marijuana is officially rescheduled, you can't claim those standard business deductions. ❌ Refund dreams? Not so fast: Some companies have been filing amended returns, hoping to get refunds on past 280E-related tax payments. The IRS is putting its foot down – these claims aren't valid, and they're gearing up to challenge them. ❌ Audit alert: If you've filed an amended return trying to sidestep 280E, you might be painting a target on your back for an audit. The IRS is making it clear they're watching. ❌ Rescheduling rollercoaster: Yes, rescheduling to Schedule III could be a game-changer for your tax bill. But recent legal developments might throw a wrench in the works. It's a "wait and see" game for now. So, why do you need a qualified Cannabis accountant more than ever? ✅ Navigate the maze: Cannabis tax law is complex and constantly evolving. A specialized accountant can help you stay compliant while maximizing your allowable deductions. ✅ Avoid costly mistakes: Filing incorrect returns or claiming invalid refunds can lead to penalties and increased scrutiny. An expert can keep you on the straight and narrow. ✅ Stay ahead of changes: When rescheduling does happen (fingers crossed), you'll want someone who can quickly adapt your financial strategy to take full advantage. ✅ Audit protection: If the IRS comes knocking, you'll want a knowledgeable pro in your corner who understands the unique challenges of Cannabis businesses. Remember, in this industry, your accountant is more than a number cruncher; they’re a strategic partner that helps you navigate a complex and changing landscape. Don't go it alone. Invest in expertise that can help keep your business thriving, even with 280E still looming large. 💰 Experience the significant value add of DOPE CFO’s Certified Advisors for your business by contacting us today at https://bit.ly/3XtRkWv #FinancialExpertise #CannabisBusiness #ValueGrowth #CannabisCommunity #InvestInSuccess #DOPE #Certifiedadvisors #Financialgrowth #Financialheal

What does participating in the cannabis industry look like. Outside of donating real dollars the next best thing is real expertise. Shameless plug for my friend Kristi Vaneé Kem. She will be speaking at the Sovereignty Summit taking place this week at the Cookies U campus in the Redwoods of Humboldt County, Calif. On the Banking panel, along with Pat Johnson, they will cover it all from getting bank to maintaining the account/relationship. The cannabis industry is going global. Bringing with it new business opportunities Tribal Nations within America are taking note of this and planning accordingly. Lindsey Renner was quoted by the Cannabis Business Times "We are seeing a lot of tribes getting into cannabis, forming codes, regulations, and cannabis commissions and building out operations. It’s a very exciting time!... The goal eventually is a successfully structured and sustainable national sovereign cannabis market" We are also excited at DOPE CFO Certified Advisors to be supporting this sovereign cannabis market.

CANNABIS BUINSESS IS SMALL BUSINESS: Large companies get the majority of the headlines. But they are a very small fraction of the cannabis industry. Small companies doing less then $10M in #Revenue and Under 15 employees make up the majority of the cannabis industry both in USA and Internationally. So this means a few things for Accounting and Finance Professionals serving the Industry. 1.    Your clients will normally be first time Founders/Investors or first time cannabis industry business owners/investors. So education needs to be baked into every interaction with the founders/investors. 2.    Most SOP’s and workflows will need to be built for the business during On-Boarding and Clean-Up in the first 90 days. Gone are the days of stepping into a fully formed business with decades of documented and improved SOP. 3.    They can not afford a Full Time Solution. But they need a Full Time Solution. So be prepared to wear many hats for your clients. Our team and myself at DOPE CFO Certified Advisors appreciate the above 3 realities of the cannabis industry. We know our impact is greater to company going from $0 to $10M. Then for a company going from $20M to $100M And we feel fortunate to get to serve the birth of a #new and exciting industry. We are also looking to keep growing alongside the cannabis industry in the key markets below. Washington Society of CPAs, Montana Society of CPAs, New Jersey Society of CPAs, Pennsylvania CPA Foundation, Arizona Society of CPAs. Missouri Society of CPAs So if you are or know any #CPA's/Finance Professionals looking to do the following, please reach out. -Launch your very own franchise DOPE CFO Certified Advisors in the next 90 days - Build your own Cannabis Accounting, Tax, and CFO service firm with YOU as the CEO and work fully remote from anywhere in the US - Get access to our world class system, training, and corporate team that WILL personally help you launch your firm quickly, with LOW stress - Help change the world, by helping legalize REAL medicine, and promote criminal justice and social justice reform - Have a TON of fun working with like minded other Dope CFO Certified Advisors all while making high fees for bringing massive value to clients Live Discovery Webinar and Q&A with me and my teammates Andrew Hunzicker, CPA Founder of DOPECFO and Kristi Vaneé Kem Tuesday Aug 27 2024 at 5pm pacific time/8pm eastern. Link in comments below to sign up! The cannabis industry will continue to change much like the tech industry changed after the internet. USA Legalization at the federal level for the cannabis industry is similar to the internet being created for the tech industry. Exciting times to be alive. DAY #2 of the AICPA Cannabis Conference was a good time. Got to learn from Luke Ortner and Jennifer Benda on IRS issues of the day. Benchmarking and KPI creation and use is rare in the cannabis industry. So was great to hear Melissa K. Diaz, CPA and Brian York speak on the topic. AI is not going away so was great to hear Mark Parisi and Tim Swain weigh on the topic. Auditors hopefully will be come cheaper and more valuable. Audits are more common in the cannabis industry then in other IMO. So was great to get insight on them from Matthew Leonardis, CPA, and Wendy Heiss. CVA’s are getting paid to handle wave of consolidations we are seeing in the cannabis industry. Was great to hear from the man, the myth the legend Ronald (Ron) Seigneur, CPA ABV ASA CVA Tax topics can be boring. But Tiffany Richardson, CPA and Charlotte Cathro, CPA made it exciting. Internal Controls are almost non existent the majority of cannabis companies. So it was a timely discussion from Leroy (Benny) Herman, Jr., CPA and Peyton Bowman MY FAVORITE though was from Andrew Livingston of Vicente LLP. Almost 80% of cannabis companies are less then $10M in top line revenue. He always brings the data points that drive the most industry insight. DOPE CFO Certified Advisors our ideal clients are single state operators or asset-lite MSO’s between $3M and $10M. So, this really validated our business model. Looking forward to see what today brings in the closing sessions. If you see our team around stop us and say hello. Was running with some wild CPA’s last night. I maintain my active CPA license so I can still poke fun at them. But I love them. And that is not what this post is about. I genuinely enjoy coming to this AICPA event each year. Get to learn from some bright minds in the #cannabis industry. That have been serving it since legalization began back in the care giver days. When going from legacy to legit your CFO/CPA is your best friend (after your lawyer). They are the ones who will help the legacy operators create a business EIN and open business bank accounts. Then catch up the books/financial statements and back taxes, get licensed. Then the CFO/CPA will help secure the capital needed for the business. And maintain the compliance standards that the regulated market requires. So since the earliest of days the #finance nerds have been supporting the industry. Yesterday I had the privilege of learning form the following CPA’s and Finance Professionals. Melissa K. Diaz, CPA, Mitzi Keating, Ronald (Ron) Seigneur, CPA ABV ASA CVA, Katye Maxson-Landis, CPA, Scott Greiper, Rachel K. Gillette, Aaron Smith, Jennifer Benda, Barbara Webb, CPA, Marc Claybon, Krista Nash, LCSW, Nathaniel Pollock, Carla McCall, CPA, CGMA, Travis H. Looking forward to seeing what today brings.

  • 🚨 Attention Cannabis business owners! 🌿 Your Cannabis company may be generating boatloads of cash, but is it profitable? Unfortunately, Cannabis companies are already shuddering due to the tax burden of 280E, rising operational costs, and competition increasing. If you are an owner or an operator of a Cannabis business or startup, these are the questions that we must be able to answer as quickly as possible: 1) Is the business profitable? 2) When will it be profitable? You need realistic projections and financial models to adequately plan for the future, gain the confidence of investors, and be prepared for the inevitable shifts in the industry that will come with the rescheduling of Cannabis.
