  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Douglas County Sheriff's Office Tackles Motor Vehicle Theft Crime Spree Two-month operation leads to 11 arrests and 17 recovered stolen vehicles Douglas County, CO – August 27, 2024 – The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is actively responding to a significant increase in auto thefts and garage burglaries across Douglas County. With a concerning total of 33 auto thefts reported in July, deputies have been working tirelessly to combat this rise in criminal activity. In one case, a suspect was seen on surveillance footage carrying a handgun while trying to break into vehicles in a Douglas County neighborhood. In a separate case, a recovered stolen vehicle from Douglas County was linked to an armed carjacking in another city where shots were fired at the victim. In recent weeks, the Sheriff's Office has conducted multiple investigations; executing search warrants, making numerous traffic stops, and pursuing suspects who try to flee. These efforts have led to the arrests of 11 individuals and the recovery of 17 stolen vehicles and 2 stolen weapons, reflecting the department's commitment to ensuring public safety. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating potential connections between these various cases. Sheriff Weekly praised the efforts of his team, stating, "My deputies have worked incredibly hard over the past several months to keep our community safe. From auto theft to property crimes, our IMPACT team and patrol deputies are doing everything they can to protect our residents. I would also like to thank the Aurora Police Department and their SWAT team for helping us safely execute two search warrants in their jurisdiction.” Sheriff Weekly also emphasized the critical role the community plays in preventing these crimes. "We need the community's help to prevent crimes of opportunity. Lock your cars and your homes," he urged. "Some of these thieves are armed and dangerous. Do not confront them. Call 911. The last thing we want is for someone to get hurt." The Douglas County Sheriff's Office remains dedicated to safeguarding the community and will continue to work around the clock to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. The investigation into all these thefts and any potential links to organized crime continues. The suspects mentioned in this release are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • The Douglas County Sheriff's Office had the honor of attending the opening ceremony for the BMW Championship at Castle Pines Golf Club! It was an incredible event, highlighted by a breathtaking flyover from the Colorado Air National Guard and a powerful rendition of the National Anthem by a talented local artist Amanda Hawkins. We’re proud to be part of such a prestigious event in our community. Best of luck to all the competitors this week!

  • The moment you realize your high school SRO is walking the course with you and providing security for the BMW Championship. #DCSO Corporal Mike Adams was Valor’s SRO when Wyndham Clark attended school there. Clark is now one of the top golfers in the world. Cpl Adams said, “That’s what I love about being an SRO over the years-running into former students…It’s great asking them what they do, seeing them excel and become something great.” We wish these hometown guys the very best! We are proud to support our local talent on and off the course! #HonorServiceValor

  • A bitter-sweet goodbye! Today was the last working day for #DCSO CJRA Specialist Michelle Trujillo. Tomorrow will be her first official day in retirement, and we couldn't be happier for her. Michelle started with the Sheriff's Office in January 2005 but was not new to Douglas County. She worked for the Assessor's Office for six years in the 1990s. She started in our Records Unit as a Clerk and worked her way up to Manager before moving over to our Criminal Justice Records Act (CJRA) Unit as a Specialist. She was one of only two specialists at the time, and creating this team was a daunting task as what they do is vital to criminal justice records and the role they play in criminal prosecution. Michelle, after many years of dedicated service to our #DCSO family and the Douglas County community, you’ve more than earned the time to relax and enjoy the next chapter of your life. Your hard work, kindness, and unwavering commitment have left a lasting impact on everyone around you. You've touched countless lives, and your presence will be greatly missed. #HonorServiceValor
