Congratulations to July's Ambassador of the Month, Jake Whiteley! 🎉 As a safety ambassador, his attention to detail and proactive approach have significantly contributed to the prevention of potential security incidents. His diligence in monitoring hot spots, conducting thorough patrols, and promptly addressing any security concerns have enhanced the overall safety of Downtown. Beyond his responsibilities, Jake has also taken the time to become more of a leader to the safety team, educating coworkers on security best practices and emergency procedures, ensuring that everyone is well prepared to respond effectively in any situation. I had the pleasure of attending the celebration of the ribbon cutting for West - San Diego this week with my colleagues Kathryn Newstead and Blake Nachtsheim. Another significant milestone for the future central connectivity district that we envision for Downtown! This mixed-use tower, led by Downtown San Diego Partnership members Holland Partner Group, Lowe, and SEKISUI SPR Americas, LLC and designed by member Carrier Johnson + Culture, is the first structure completed in a planned three-block redevelopment. Our members JLL with Richard Gonor leading is proactively leading up commercial office space and Michael Burton and Flocke & Avoyer Commercial Real Estate busy leading up the retail spaces. It is a combination of residential units (including 10% for very low AMI affordable units), office (anticipating to be 90 percent leased in 2025!), ground-floor retail space, shared amenities, and a rooftop deck and pool that screams "America's Outdoor Downtown," it's exciting to see what the future holds for the built environment in our urban center. We know projects like this are building toward our collective dreams and vision for what Downtown San Diego will be in its next chapter.

What a weekend! With over 130,000 visitors flooding Downtown for Comic-Con, keeping our vibrant city clean was no small feat. This year, our Clean & Safe team collected an impressive 44,500 pounds of trash! A huge thank you to our dedicated heroes for making Comic-Con a cleaner, more enjoyable experience for everyone. We're also grateful to our friends at the The City of San Diego's Environmental Services Department (ESD) for lending a helping hand with additional trash pickup and power washing efforts as we welcomed an influx of activity to our urban neighborhoods. It was truly a team effort to make our Downtown shine!

We are proud to stand with these 15 community organizations advocating for the City Council to support additional shelter expansion with the proposed Kettner Campus. The homelessness emergency remains a top policy issue for the Downtown community and the greatest challenge to fully realizing the mission of an economically prosperous region. When we come together to advocate for human-centered solutions, we see positive impacts in our community. These impacts can be seen in the monthly unsheltered count in Downtown, which is over 50% lower than it was one year ago. Although expanding shelter capacity in a campus setting is only one part of the solution, we know these types of programs work. Individuals asking for assistance will have another option to be connected to services in a way that meets their needs. This is especially helpful until we can implement more long-term solutions to connect people to permanent housing opportunities. In this moment of action – we are asking you to join us in supporting solutions that work! To voice your support today as the City Council votes on this important issue, please follow the instruction on the meeting agenda to give either in person or virtual public comment. https://lnkd.in/dmmUVCex
