DTA is thrilled about the proposed 2025 Physician Fee Schedule (PFS). For the first time, CMS has introduced Medicare reimbursable codes for "digital mental health treatment (DMHT) devices" as a physician service. This is a groundbreaking step for the industry, acknowledging the vital role of digital therapeutics in healthcare. Types of products that may be included in new codes: 🔹 Mental and Behavioral Health Psychotherapy 🔹 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy  🔹 FDA Cleared DTA Membership Shapes Policy:   🔹 June 2023:  DTx Demo Days: Demonstrations on Capitol Hill to showcase the efficacy of digital therapeutics. 🔹 August 2023:  Response to ‘24 Proposed PFS : DTA and Members submitted a comment letter urging CMS to leverage their authority to classify DMHT devices under durable medical equipment (DME) and incident-to physician services benefit categories. 🔹 Ongoing:  Executive Fly-in Days: Monthly meetings with Congress to advocate for digital therapeutics coverage. 🔹 Ongoing:  DTA U.S. Policy Task Group:  Monthly action oriented meetings to update members on policy initiatives, discuss opportunities and risks, and use member direction to drive advocacy 🔹 June 2024:  DTA Advocacy Days: DTA Members met with policymakers to push for the inclusion of digital therapeutics in Medicare coverage. While we celebrate this achievement, DTA recognizes that there is more work to be done. We will continue our efforts to expand coverage for a broader range of conditions and digital health solutions. Our mission is to ensure that all patients have access to effective and innovative digital therapeutics, enhancing the overall quality and accessibility of healthcare. The CMS 2025 Proposed Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) was released and, for the first time, includes codes specifically for DTx products. Three proposed new codes were created to cover the supply and management of FDA cleared "digital mental health treatment (DMHT) devices" as a physician service. Last year, DTA responded to the request for information on digital therapies from CMS in the proposed PFS. DTA strongly encouraged CMS to classify these products under the durable medical equipment (DME) and incident-to physician services benefit categories. Read DTA's 2023 Comment Here: https://lnkd.in/ehJYD24v While we asked for coverage of all federally regulated DTx under multiple benefit categories, and did not get everything we requested, CMS has responded favorably by introducing incremental updates. ❓ What is the PFS The PFS is the primary method of payment for enrolled health care providers. Medicare uses the PFS when paying:  🔹 Professional services of physicians and other health care providers in private practice. 🔹 Services covered incident to physicians' services (other than certain drugs covered as incident to services) 🔹 The PFS is updated annually with the proposal for the following year released mid-year and the final rule released at the end of the year. ❓ How does the proposed rule apply to me Coding, coverage, and reimbursement are critical to access in the US. CMS is a trend setter and has historically not covered DTx products in any streamlined capacity. This is the first time CMS has provided Medicare reimbursable codes for DTx products. These codes are furnished through physician services. If you haven’t looked at your product as a physician service, consider if this applies to you. ❓ Is this good news Yes! This is the first acknowledgement of a reimbursement pathway for a certain sector of DTx interventions. This sets a precedent for Medicare coding, coverage, and reimbursement that can be applied to additional therapeutic categories. This allows for fewer payment workarounds to gain traction for your product. This also signals to the investment community that there is a viable reimbursement pathway for DTx. If you are not FDA cleared, then this does not directly apply to you. However, you should keep working with DTA to ensure that you are up to date with the evolving landscape. ❓ What will happen next DTA will submit a response. DTA is seeking Members to work as a temporary sub-committee to develop an draft that we will share with the US Policy Task Group in mid-August for feedback.
