Today at the UNICEF Executive Board we had a special session on Africa. Did you know that the number of children in Africa will rise to well over 900 million by 2050? That means investing in their future is shaping the future of Africa, and of the world. The international community has collectively made tremendous progress in the past 20 years - but the scale of the challenges is rising (debt crisis, climate crisis, conflict etc.,) We need to lay the groundwork for the current and future generations of children so they survive and thrive, realize their rights, and we meet their growing aspirations. I truly believe that Africa’s children are a global asset. Let’s invest in them. Let's partner with them. Let's help them realize their true potential. #africa #foreverychild #partnerships #investments

Clinical signs alone do not detect all indicators of severe illness in children. In order for health workers to make the right diagnosis, they need access to and training for critical screening and #diagnostic tools. But in many countries, these devices are either not available, not functioning properly, or not suited for infants who need them most—putting children's lives at risk. Since 2019, the PATH-led Tools for Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (TIMCI) project has worked to improve access to #PulseOximeters and clinical decision support systems in Tanzania, India, Kenya, and Senegal. "Before the TIMCI project's interventions, it was incredibly difficult to detect #hypoxemia in very sick children upon arrival," recalls Joyce Nuhu, a clinical officer at the Nguvumali Health Center in Tanga, Tanzania. Since the introduction of the new tools, Joyce says, detection—and subsequent management or referral—has become much easier. As the five-year project comes to an end, we're reflecting on its achievements and lessons learned: https://lnkd.in/eU4kw_2V olgah odek Amos Mugisha Michael Ruffo Ifakara Health Institute

As the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly approaches, Early Childhood Development Action Network (ECDAN) and its partners are calling on global leaders to seize this moment to forge a multilateral system of cooperation through the Pact for the Future to ensure that every young child is well-nourished, healthy, happy, learning, and safe, and able to reach their full potential. The Pact for the Future must go beyond recognizing the need to scale up financing; it must explicitly acknowledge the transformative impact of investing in the early years. As global leaders gather at the Summit of the Future on September 22-23 to discuss accelerating efforts to meet international commitments and address emerging challenges, we urge them to prioritize young children. Now is the time to develop systems, structures, and financing mechanisms that create pathways for opportunity, ensuring that no child is left behind. Take action today—sign the open letter and help secure a brighter future for all children. https://lnkd.in/eatQPhvd #Pactforthefuture #UNGA79 #Earlylyears #Earlychildhooddevelopment

Children’s biological systems begin adapting to their environments in their earliest days, even before birth. These “molecular memories” shape children’s immune and cardiovascular systems, among others, well into adulthood. When we improve the environments around young children and pregnant people, we are not only supporting a child’s development but also their lifelong health. #PlaceMatters To learn more, check out our working paper, “Place Matters: The Environment We Create Shapes the Foundations of Healthy Development” https://bit.ly/3ZtjEWK
