International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples marked by the UN General Assembly Today, the UN General Assembly celebrates ‘International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.’ We have an engaging middle school PBL unit called: "Upholding Indigenous Rights" that celebrates the history of Indigenous Peoples around the world. Guided by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, students explore historical and current injustices against Indigenous Peoples of the Americas. Educators, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us about your experiences with a Model UN simulation where students act as delegates to draft, negotiate, and adopt a resolution to protect the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Educurious is excited to announce our next The Library of Congress-Teaching with Primary Sources sponsored workshop: “Kaona: Language is Life.” The workshop will take place on Thursday, July 11th 2024 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm PST. Apply here: https://lnkd.in/ginZGqzq The unit deconstructs the AAPI acronym that represents about 50 ethnic groups and over 100 different languages and then zooms in on the Hawaiian sovereignty movement. Students discover how Hawaiian activists have advocated for ea—sovereignty, life, and air—and aloha ‘āina—"love of the land" or "to love like the land loves us"—and ultimately apply what they learned to their own lived experiences.
