Serving for Success Since 1934
About us
While running his normal milk route in 1934, Eldon Stutsman’s neighbors started asking him to bring supplies back from town. With a desire to serve others, Eldon was glad to oblige. The requests kept coming and a company was born. What started as just a man and a truck is now Eastern Iowa’s largest family-owned supplier of wholesale and retail agriculture products and services. Our strength is in our diversity. Our 300+ employees have extensive experience in agronomy services, manure handling equipment, feed ingredient distribution, transportation, logistics, precision & application equipment, and grain handling equipment. Headquartered in Hills, Iowa, we are ideally located to serve not only Iowa but the Midwest. It has forever been in our company’s DNA to passionately serve our customers, community, and industry for success. From that tradition, we have been (and still are) driven to not only change to keep up with the times but to be innovative enough to stay ahead; all to better serve our customers while staying rooted to who we are. As practices, equipment, and technology continue to advance and shift, we can guarantee our tradition of serving for success remains the same; just as it has the past 90 years.

We've been keeping a secret 🤭 Our Operations Manager, Pat Mougin, with the help of truck shop technician, Jim Mills (engine and transmission work), and Ron Sexton (tear down, sandblasting, painting and reassembly) has been refurbishing one of Stutsman's old Hahn Hi-Boys to surprise Ron Stutsman during this year's Fourth of July parade! And surprised he was! ✨ A little dash of history ✨ Fresh out of college, Ron purchased his first Hahn Hi-Boy in the summer of 1962. He charged $1.25/acre that summer, plus the cost of 2,4-D. On a good day, he could spray 100 to 125 acres. The next year, Ron sprayed Treflan and Amiben pre-emerge for soybeans. On top of using Hi-Boys, Stutsmans was a Hahn dealer for several years. June is Dairy Month 🐄, so we're raising a glass (of milk 🥛) to our 80-year-old friendship with one of our longstanding feed ingredients vendors, Diamond V. Eldon Stutsman likely was one of the earliest customers of C.W. Bloomhall, founder of Diamond V. In 1943, C.W. began producing yeast cultures as a feed supplement in Cedar Rapids, IA. C.W. observed fermented products could improve rumen fermentation, animal health, milk yield and heat stress management, which ignited his idea for a business venture. Also recognizing the benefits of yeast, Eldon added the probiotic into Sweet Lassy's dairy feeds for years to come and began selling it to customers for their mixing rations. Happy Dairy Month to our friends at Diamond V and all of the hardworking dairy farmers!

Roots in Trucking Circle Back. Although trucking was always a way to distribute feed, we didn’t dabble much in for-hire trucking in our early years (outside of livestock hauling). In 1992, Stutsmans applied for a transportation authority to do just that, and Stutsman Transportation was born. Not only was this a way for us to diversify, but it also benefitted our other divisions and allowed us to maximize trip efficiencies. With our transportation authority in hand, we called on our feed vendors to see if they were interested in our new transportation service. Diamond V was one of the first companies we hauled for. As the division expanded, we added nearly 17 owner/operators to our fleet. Today, we have 50 company-owned Stutsman Transportation trucks and 19 feed route trucks. Need to catch up on the rest of our transportation story? Head on over to https://bit.ly/45rfkvR.
