Electra is expanding its executive team with two new industry leaders: James Rutland as Chief Financial Officer and Steve MacManus as Vice President of Engineering. James joins us with more than 20 years of international finance and commercial experience. His background includes leadership roles at startups, like Northvolt, a lithium-ion battery producer, and established firms like Skanska, a construction giant. Most recently, as North America CFO at Northvolt, James worked to secure private and public funding to project-finance a $5 Billion lithium-ion battery production plant. James will play a crucial role in supporting Electra’s growth, leveraging his financial expertise across several sectors to facilitate the establishment of new pure iron production facilities. Steve brings decades of experience in manufacturing engineering with a proven track record at Fortune 500 companies like Tesla and Apple. At Tesla, Steve was responsible for the product development cycle for Tesla’s Models S, X, Y and 3, from design to launch. Steve’s proven track record in launching new products with complex engineering will be vital to scaling Electra’s novel technology from pilot to commercial scale. By bringing on James and Steve, Electra is cementing its position at the forefront of Clean Iron production. Their combined experience and leadership will accelerate Electra's path to commercial adoption.

Thank you Lowercarbon Capital and Gold House for including Electra in an evening highlighting innovative and inspiring solutions to climate change. #climatetech
This week, Lowercarbon Capital and Gold House teamed up to host the first-ever gathering of the most badass Asian Americans working on solving climate change. We brought together an exceptional group of ~30 entrepreneurs, executives, scientists, investors, and policymakers from across the country at a restaurant in the heart of SF Chinatown for an evening of connection and community. The climate crisis is a global one, and I for one am thrilled to see all hands on deck. Special thanks to Blake Armstrong from SVB for making this special night possible. #climate #climatetech #climatechange #tech #startups #asian #asianamerican #aapi

Steel is produced at a massive scale—1.9 billion metric tons annually—for appliances, vehicles, buildings, and more. Its traditional manufacturing dates back over 4,000 years and relies heavily on carbon-based fuels. Alongside our co-founders, Sandeep Nijhawan and Quoc Pham, Electra electrochemical engineer Trevor Braun and scientist Colleen Wallace worked with Christopher Alexander to explain how Electra is developing low-carbon clean iron to decarbonize steelmaking for ECS - The Electrochemical Society: https://lnkd.in/gqARuzsv

Last week, our Co-Founder and CTO Quoc Pham was in Chicago for the ARPA-E conference to kick off the DOE ROSIE program. He participated in a fireside chat on raising capital and scaling for speed with Christina Chang of Lowercarbon Capital and Priyanka B. Bakaya of ARPA-E. Quoc Pham shared Electra’s journey from a PowerPoint idea four years ago to now operating a pilot plant with over 100 employees, and the challenges and opportunities that come with rapid growth. The most important element – building a great team. If you want to join the team at Electra, check out our current job openings: https://lnkd.in/ezzRkSyg

As we advance our work to decarbonize the ironmaking process, we’re partnering with ZF Group, the global technology group supplying systems for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and other complex product system industries. As one of the largest suppliers to the automotive industry worldwide, ZF Group procures over 2.5 million tons of steel each year. In providing clean iron to ZF Group’s steel and cast-iron partners, Electra will help ZF to meet its commitment for carbon neutrality in 2040.
