Educating for Our Rising Innovation Economy in the 21st Century

About us

ERIE21 is a bold, visionary initiative designed to address the region’s twin problems of persistently high poverty in Syracuse and the inability of employers to attract and retain the skilled workers needed to fill current job openings as well as those resulting from the looming exodus of baby boomers from the workforce. Serving as both a comprehensive and a long-term strategy, ERIE21 delivers early intervention (in the middle school grades) and provides ongoing support to students in high school and college to strengthen the region’s capacity to develop a pipeline that can generate homegrown talent to feed the growing demand for computational, software and engineering talent.

ERIE21 could not be prouder of Bill Brower's new appointment as the Executive Director of the William G. Pomeroy Foundation (link to their post below). As a founding father of ERIE21 he has been instrumental in helping us transform our vision for the program into reality. Because of this we know he will do great things with the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and we look forward to collaborating in the future. Best of luck Bill and thank you for all you've done and will continue to do! https://lnkd.in/eKfH5T3b

🌟 Exciting News from ERIE21! 🌟 This past Friday, our ERIE21 team gathered at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo to celebrate an amazing achievement: the installation of six "Curious Critter Corner" learning stations! These interactive stations were designed and created by a dedicated cohort of 42 high school students from across the city of Syracuse as part of our Innovation Internship summer program. Under the mentorship of ERIE21 and Keenan Center staff, students collaborated to develop these engaging installations to answer some of the most common questions zoo visitors have, making the zoo experience even more educational and fun! We are incredibly proud of our students' hard work and creativity. Their efforts are a shining example of the power of project-based learning and community partnership. Next time you visit the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, NY, be sure to check out the Curious Critter Corners and see our students' innovation in action! 🦁🦒🐧 #ERIE21 #ProjectBasedLearning #YouthInnovation #RosamondGiffordZoo #STEAM #CommunityEngagement #CuriousCritterCorners

More exciting fun with ERIE21! Today we took a group of Lock 4 Alumni to the SIDEARM Sports offices. We had the opportunity to learn more about who they are, what they do, and how they operate. Touring their space and connecting with several of their team members was great. .Alumni were even able to have one-on-one conversations with the team in areas of analytics, development, and IT & Security. It was a wonderful morning of learning and collaboration, followed by a lunch with the team. Another big thanks to SIDEARM Sports and we look forward to more collaborations in the future!

Given current and upcoming talent demands due to a large expansion, many areas of future collaboration and partnership were discussed. Today, is for our Friday Featurette, we're pleased to feature Mat Avery, our Student Engagement Specialist. Mat attended SUNY Brockport and was a dual major studying Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing and Interdisciplinary Arts for Children with a concentration in the Visual Arts. During his time at Brockport he served as a Resident Assistant in MacVicar Hall which led to his first professional role as a Residence Director at Cazenovia College. After a few years at Cazenovia he landed the role of Area Director at Le Moyne College managing a number of upperclassmen housing options. After 8 years in Campus Life and Leadership learning Le Moyne, connecting with countless students, and building relationships with staff it seemed a natural fit to continue working with students in a new capacity, leading to his current role on the ERIE21 Lock 3 team.
