📣 Women of LinkedIn - if you have 30 seconds to spare, please answer our one-question survey about how long your menstrual cycle is (link below). Why are we collecting this data? Most media outlets say the 'average' menstrual cycle lasts between 21 and 35 days. But when was this data collected? Is it reflective of the lives we lead in 2024? Probably not. The way we live is constantly changing, and lifestyle factors (stress, food, smoking, time outdoors, etc) have a huge impact on our reproductive health. Plus, it's quite the range we've been given (15 days between both ends of the spectrum). If that range could be reduced that down, it's possible that we could more easily spot outliers and investigate potential health issues sooner. So, what's the average length these days? Have your say! https://lnkd.in/eaRRhnNB

Last week, our newsletter focused on the 'New Year New Me' hoo-ha. These campaigns about starting a new calendar year with a juice cleanse, protein detox, carbon-neutral face regime, and wholly unsustainable calorie count are designed to make us think there was something wrong with the ‘old’ us. Why? Because the companies saying these things have something to sell; something that will fix all the problems ‘old’ you had. Which, by the way, don’t exist. You’re perfect, just the way you are. How do you know you can trust us? That this isn’t some double bluff? We’ve got nothing to sell 🤷🏽♀️. Speaking of different versions of ourselves; something that’s come up a lot in conversation lately is the personality change that comes with PMS and PMDD 👇. We’ve spoken to so many people (particularly those with PMDD) who say that they don’t like the person they become during the luteal phase. We’re angry, irritable, judgemental, tired, snappy, unsociable, negative, self-deprecating, argumentative, over-analyse everything, and often, have thoughts so dark, we think about taking all the light away. But we’re at a loss as to what to do. And that’s where we hand over to you: ➡️ Should we try and find a way to bring our brilliant self every day of the cycle? Eventually, would enough tracking, medication, CBT, workout adaptation, endorphins, and lifestyle changes eradicate the luteal phase us and give happy, follicular phase us all the time? Is that totally unrealistic? Would we be setting ourselves up to fail because it’s just not biologically possible? Yes, we can increase our happiness levels, and we can decrease all of the negative symptoms, but should we strive for 24/7 follicular us? ➡️ Or, should we try to embrace the fact we’re prone to fluctuate, that there are in fact two sides to our mental state? Maybe we’re all people of multiple sides and varying phases, which is perfectly natural and perfectly imperfect? What we eat really does affect our PMS and PMDD. Did you know: → The gut produces 90% of the body’s serotonin (one of the happy hormones), and 70% of our immune system lives there; → Females with PMS and PMDD have been shown to have lower levels of micronutrients in their blood compared to people who don’t have PMS or PMDD; →What our bodies require in terms of nutrients, macros, and micros changes depending on the phase of the cycle we’re in. By making small, well-informed tweaks to our diets, we can: → Significantly improve gut health → Boost our immune system → Top up the vitamins and minerals we're deficient in during the luteal phase → Improve our mood, energy levels, skin clarity, and more. If you want to know all about how diet and nutrition play a role in the presentation of our PMS and PMDD, and how we can eat to ease symptoms, click the link below and download our free premenstrual nutrition guide. This time of year is jam-packed full of expectations: -Be happy -Give generously -Come along, it'll be fun -Have a drink -Support others -Help in the kitchen -Be grateful -Look sparkly -Talk to Aunt Hilda -Treasure every minute -Take the bins out -Entertain your little brother -Go on, have another slice, it's Christmas Remember that you don't have to appease anyone this Christmas and New Year, and it's more than okay to say no. Make decisions that fill your cup up, not just everybody else's. In this week's episode of Is Anybody Listening, we talk to period and life coach Sarah Byrne. Sarah talks about a past conversation she had with a friend who always prioritised filling her cup over others'. Why? Because when her cup was full, it overflowed, and everyone around her could fill theirs up from her surplus. You do you, especially at Christmas #EvelynHealth #MyNormal #premenstrualconditions #knowyourcycle Listen to the full episode here: https://lnkd.in/dmdjApgG

When you're at the dinner table this Christmas, take a look at all the females sitting around you. More than 3 out of 4 of them will experience or have experienced PMS or PMDD. But how many of them have recognised it, spoken about it, or been allowed to acknowledge that it's pretty damn unpleasant? PMS and PMDD are life-changing conditions, they're not 'just part of being female'. And we need to start talking about it. So, once you've finished looking around and thinking about the decades of female oppression sitting at the dinner table, open the conversation up. Ask them about their experiences with PMS, PMDD, and their cycle in general, and start smashing taboos from your own dining room #EvelynHealth #PMS #PMDD #SmashTheTaboos
