What are the real culprits behind EV charging downtime? If you are in the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry, you won't want to miss these valuable tips. According to the latest J.D. Power surveys on charging satisfaction, reported by Automotive News, public EV charging stations experienced an 18% failure rate for charging attempts in the fourth quarter of 2023. A wide variety of problems may cause downtime for EV chargers. However, the real culprits may surprise you. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/ghx8QGyj The most significant culprit of EV charging downtime is cellular connectivity. A whopping 55% of EV charger failures are caused by network connectivity problems. Thankfully, there is a quick and easy fix, nSpire by Endeavour. Most chargers today have only a single network. Chargers that frequently go offline due to network issues can lead to frustration and diminish trust in the charging infrastructure. A quick and easy solution to this problem is adding multiple mobile network operator (MNO) connections to EV chargers, providing backup networks if the primary network is down. For Charge Point Operators (CPOs), managing chargers with multiple MNO profiles can lead to better operational efficiency. It reduces the need for physical maintenance visits to address network-related issues and allows for remote monitoring and management of the chargers. This proactive approach to ensuring connectivity helps keep the connectivity running smoothly and reduces the overall cost of maintaining the infrastructure. Endeavour Technology's breakthrough is a super lightweight applet. nSpire, Endeavour's patented software technology, is installed ‘over the air’ to the SIM in any EV charger using standard SIM update processes. It works seamlessly, anywhere in the world, without the need for physical site visits or changes to the EV charger. nSpire is a groundbreaking solution that automatically measures and optimizes the network connectivity. An added benefit of nSpire is the highly detailed, intuitive dashboards, displaying real-time insights and trends. However, nSpire offers much more. See the article for further details. With Endeavour's nSpire, drivers can trust that the charger will always be operational, restoring confidence in EV infrastructure. For CPOs, nSpire ensures they always know the status of their stations and receive instant alerts to any issues, enabling swift action and minimizing downtime. Ready to elevate your EV charging experience through enhanced reliability? Book a demo with Endeavour today and see how nSpire can make a difference. Can Volvo’s new electric SUVs help revamp its and other EV sales in the US? Volvo is banking on its new electric SUVs, the EX90 and EX30, to revitalize its electric vehicle (EV) sales in the US market. The brand has faced significant challenges, with a 72% drop in electric vehicle sales in the first half of 2024 compared to the previous year. This decline has reduced Volvo's share of the US EV market from 0.4% to 0.3%. Volvo retains a strong and loyal US customer base with its ICE vehicles. Its hoping these customers will prefer the brand when making the transition to EVs. See EVinfo.net's article on the ACS blog: https://lnkd.in/gMBUEYTb Volvo Group is optimistic about the potential of its upcoming electric models. The flagship EX90, a three-row SUV, is expected to hit US dealerships later this year. Following the EX90, Volvo will introduce the smaller, more affordable EX30 in the second half of 2025.  It will start at $34,950 and likely become one of the most affordable EVs in the US. The EX90 marks a significant milestone for Volvo, as it is the first vehicle in the company's nearly 100-year history to be developed and launched outside of Europe. The EX90 was specifically designed with the U.S. market in mind and will be built domestically. The fact that the EX90 is being produced in the U.S. also aligns with the growing trend of localizing EV production to meet demand and navigate regulatory requirements, such as those related to tax incentives. The Volvo EX90, Volvo's first three-row electric SUV, rolled off the production line in South Carolina in June 2024, with deliveries scheduled to begin later this year. Originally, Volvo announced a starting price of $77,990 for the EX90. However, due to increased U.S. tariffs on the battery, which is supplied by China's CATL, Volvo had to raise the price. The EX90 now starts at $81,290, including the destination fee. EV charging is becoming more profitable. Stable Auto's Utilization data highlights a significant shift in the profitability of EV charging stations across many U.S. states. These stations are becoming increasingly profitable as EV adoption grows and demand for charging infrastructure rises. Automotive Charging Solutions (ACS) can help businesses capitalize on this trend by providing tailored EV charging solutions that maximize efficiency and profitability. ACS offers expertise in site selection, installation, and management of charging stations, ensuring they meet the needs of EV drivers while delivering strong returns on investment. Today, Canada announced a 100% tariff on EVs imported from China and a 25% tariff on Chinese steel and aluminum, following similar actions by the United States and the European Union. The news came as a blow to Tesla, which manufactures some of its vehicles in China for export. The news of these tariffs has already impacted Tesla's stock, which fell by 3%. See the article on EVinfo.net: https://lnkd.in/g2Gnrt85 Canadian imports of automobiles from China surged dramatically in 2023, with a 460% year-over-year increase, largely driven by Tesla’s decision to start shipping Shanghai-made electric vehicles (EVs) to Canada. This significant rise in imports has prompted the Canadian government to take action. “In response to the tariffs, I would expect Tesla would shift its logistics and potentially export autos to Canada from the U.S.,” said Seth Goldstein, equity strategist at Morningstar. These tariffs are set to take effect on October 1, 2024, and are part of Canada’s broader strategy to counter what it views as unfair trade practices by China. The decision reflects growing concerns in Canada and other Western countries about the impact of China’s economic policies on global trade and domestic industries. “What is important about this is we’re doing it in alignment and in parallel with other economies around the world,” Trudeau said. “It is a 100% surtax on all Chinese-made EVs. If companies currently making vehicles in China choose to move their production to a different country, they would no longer be captured by this tariff,” a Canadian government official said. The decision by Canada to impose tariffs on Chinese imports, including electric vehicles, appears to have been influenced by discussions with U.S. national security advisor Jake Sullivan. During a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Cabinet ministers on Sunday, Sullivan reportedly encouraged Canada to take this step. This collaboration underscores the close coordination between the U.S. and Canada in addressing concerns about China’s trade practices. What's your opinion on the 100% Canadian tariff on EVs imported from China and similar actions by the United States and the European Union? We Need MORE Cheap EVs in 2024. The low-cost EV segment remains threadbare in America for this year. Few low-cost options exist, preventing a massive segment of the car-buying public from switching from gas to electric. EV experts say low-cost new EVs are vital to promoting mass EV adoption in America. See the article on EVinfo.net: https://lnkd.in/gkTfvYAy So far, Hyundai and Chevy are poised to be the low-cost EV leaders for 2024, creating massive sales opportunities, and getting us that much closer to mass adoption. One of the most significant reasons there are not more cheap EVs is profit. Author Ken Boyer addressed the profitability issue in his excellent book, “The Electric Vehicle Revolution.” In the book, Boyer pointed out three “Gears of Change” as a fundamental principle of how a worldwide shift from gas engines to electric can feasibly happen for the transportation sector. The Three Gears of Change refer to: Willingness to Commit, Ability to Profit, and Transforming the Supply Network. Most legacy OEMs have not had the “Ability to Profit” yet on their EV models in 2024. The reason OEMs are not reaching profitability on EVs yet is that they are not producing them in sufficient numbers. Car companies need to produce vehicles in mass production to make a profit. Because EVs have not reached mass adoption yet in the United States, there are not enough buyers yet for OEMs to make EVs using mass production, for the most part. Some of the top contenders of the cheap EV market in America are the 2025 Chevy Bolt and 2024 Equinox, and Hyundai Group's 2024 Kona. Hyundai is one of the carmakers expected to lead the EV revolution, along with Chevrolet. The government provides a point-of-sale tax credit of up to $7,500 for qualified buyers of select new fully electric, plug-in hybrid (PHEVs), and fuel-cell vehicles (FCEVs). Hybrids are a necessary bridge to BEVs for now due to multiple barriers. However, if you must go hybrid, choose PHEVs. There’s no good reason to drive a HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) or ICE vehicle in 2024. A report by the nonprofit Coltura supports the notion that EVs can put more money back into owners’ pockets over time, thanks to reduced ongoing expenses. U.S. EV drivers saved $100 per month on fuel and maintenance during Q2 2024. The lack of public EV charging is becoming less of a barrier, as the number of public Level 2 and DC fast chargers increased by 26%  from July 2023 to July 2024. EVinfo.net has reported recently on several luxury and high-performance EVs on the higher end of the price spectrum.  However, our main focus is promoting mass EV adoption in America and around the globe. Therefore, we support low-cost EVs the most, as these will do the most to drive mass adoption. $50 million in funding helping small- and medium-sized automotive suppliers make the EV transition was announced by the DOE. This initiative is designed to assist these suppliers in adapting their manufacturing facilities for the growing EV supply chain, ensuring the preservation of good-paying, union jobs in traditional auto communities. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gv3aAkKn To be eligible for the funding, grantees had to meet specific criteria: they must be a state, territory, or the District of Columbia with a workforce where at least 0.5% is employed in the automotive sector and qualify for a minimum of $4 million in grant funding. Based on these criteria, six states have been deemed eligible for funding: Michigan: $18,406,420.45 Ohio: $9,373,236.32 Indiana: $8,770,249.81 Kentucky: $4,876,458.57 Tennessee: $4,513,688.68 Illinois: $4,059,946.17 The DOE created the grant program in response to Michigan’s request. In May 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris and Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II announced the new federal and state partnerships aimed at reinforcing Michigan’s leadership in the clean energy transition. Additionally, the DOE, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor, announced in May it will designate Michigan as an EV Workforce Hub. “Under President Biden and Vice President Harris’ leadership, America’s auto communities and the workforces they support finally have the tools they need to compete and thrive in the 21st century clean energy economy,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer spoke, thanking the Biden/Harris Administration for its forward-thinking leadership. This funding is part of the broader $2 billion Domestic Automotive Manufacturing Conversion Grant program, which is funded by the historic Inflation Reduction Act, part of the most significant effort ever undertaken to combat climate change, both in the United States and globally. In addition to the state allocations, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is also announcing $1.5 million in funding for three teams under the expanded Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ITAC) program. EVinfo.net commends President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm for thier tremendous leadership in America's EV and clean energy transitions. These efforts are critical to fighting climate change. At the same time, these programs are stimulating America's economy and creating massive numbers of new good-paying jobs. In Ken Boyer's excellent book, "The Electric Vehicle Revolution," converting the automotive supply chain from gas to electric, which this DOE funding is enabling, is highlighted in great detail: https://lnkd.in/ge2Y8_Ne EVinfo.net offers our EV industry colleagues unique and valuable marketing services: https://lnkd.in/gH5Gdqb7 #electricvehicles

EV Charging is cheaper than gasoline nationwide in the US, another reason why electric vehicles (EVs) are more cost-effective than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The fact that EVs are the most eco-friendly form of transportation is an added benefit. See Stable Auto's article: https://lnkd.in/g7wnjBae On average, EV drivers save approximately 51% compared to traditional gasoline vehicles. Nebraska stands out with an impressive 71% savings for EV drivers. The average cost of EV charging equates to gasoline priced at $1.66 per gallon, a substantial savings of nearly $2.00 compared to the national average. Gasoline prices are notoriously volatile. In June 2022, they reached record highs of over $5.00 per gallon. While they've dropped to around $3.40 as of August 2024, they remain significantly higher than electricity. Both electricity and gasoline prices vary by location. For example, California, even with the highest gasoline prices at around $4.60 in August 2024, still saw an average savings of 47%, even though the state also has substantially higher than average electricity costs. Nebraska stands out with an impressive 71% savings for EV drivers, while Washington and Utah follow with 64%, and North Dakota offers a 63% average discount. On the east coast, Delaware boasts the highest savings, while the New England states have relatively lower savings compared to the rest of the country due to higher electricity costs. What's your opinion? Most notably, this is another reason EV charging is a great investment in every US state. Stable Auto can help. The nation's smartest EV charging companies are taking advantage of locations that are seeing a widening gap between the price of gasoline and EV charging.    Here's why: Faster EV adoption: In these regions, drivers who stand to gain the most financially by transitioning to EVs could pave the way for a larger customer base down the road. Higher potential profit margins: More potential for customers means more potential demand, and businesses who deploy chargers now in higher demand charging locations can command a higher price. Stable showed how utilization increases are leading to profit increases for CPOs. Stable's latest EV charging utilization and EV charging pricing data for Q2 2024 reveals some interesting trends: DCFC utilization rose 32% from July 2023 to June 2024, though growth appears to be stabilizing between 16-17%. The average price of public DCFC charging remained steady at around $0.45-$0.46 per kWh. On a state-by-state basis, average prices increased in 36 states and decreased in 12 states, with 7 states experiencing changes greater than 10%. EVinfo.net is proud to partner with Stable Auto.
