Each generation brings different skills, perspectives, and ways of working. But with that diversity comes some challenges. According to Harvard Business Review, 60% of employees have experienced some kind of tension between age groups. It’s not surprising! Younger employees might prefer flexibility and remote work, while older team members may value routine and face-to-face communication. For example, a recent college grad who started their first job during the pandemic and is accustomed to a remote setup, might love working from home and using digital tools to communicate, while someone who entered the workforce during the 2008 recession might prefer the stability of a traditional 9-to-5. Here’s the thing: a Deloitte survey found that 69% of Millennials would stay with a company for at least five years if it offered them flexibility.
