About us

Exa was built with a simple goal — to organize all knowledge. After several years of heads-down research, we developed novel representation learning techniques and crawling infrastructure so that LLMs can intelligently find relevant information. Introducing Summaries! Now, every Exa result can come with an LLM-generated summary, or an answer to any question you specify. Try it for yourself! https://dashboard.exa.ai/ For those new to Exa -> With our search API, you can find 1000s of results to any complex query (which traditional search engines/APIs can't surface), extract the full text content of each link, highlights (aka direct quotes), and now, summaries. It's the most powerful and flexible search experience you've ever seen.

Exa (YC S21) has raised $17 million in Series A funding to build the search engine for AIs. "Soon, AI will search the web more than humans," said Exa co-founder and CEO, Will Bryk. "But search engines like Google were designed for humans, not AI. Whereas Google is optimized for human clicks, AI needs a search engine that’s powerful and precise enough to retrieve thousands of results with the best information. That’s where Exa comes in – we’re the first search engine built for AI." Founded by Will Bryk and Jeffrey Wang, Exa’s mission is to organize the world’s knowledge, enhancing AI applications across industries. Its API integrates seamlessly into existing systems, providing developers with powerful tools to enhance their AI applications. Exa uses embedding models, similar to ChatGPT's technology, to transform web pages into numerical lists called embeddings. This approach integrates the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) directly into the search process, enhancing it beyond traditional keyword-based methods like Google. This smarter search method connects AI applications with the most relevant real-world knowledge. Thousands of companies and developers have already integrated Exa into their applications. It's used by AI writing assistants to help students with citations, by VC firms to find specific startups, and by AI research teams at companies such as Databricks to create large, high-quality training datasets. https://lnkd.in/dzwT3z-t

    Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners

We at Lightspeed are excited to announce our investment in Exa, an AI-powered search engine built and optimized for the needs of AI agents. AI agents will need access to up-to-date, accurate information to best complete their tasks. Ideally, AI agents would be able to retrieve information across the entire public internet via API, an important tool in their toolkit. This will require new infrastructure — the agentic web, infrastructure that specifically supports AI agents and their capabilities and looks quite different than what's been built for humans to date. That's where Exa comes in. Exa is an embedding-based search engine built for AI agents. Exa ingests and indexes up-to-date content from the web and exposes that data to LLM-based applications via a search API powered by their own novel “link prediction” foundation model. Will Bryk and Jeffrey Wang, co-founders of Exa, have been friends and collaborators since their days studying computer science at Harvard, hacking on problem sets and technical projects late into the night. Will then went on to be an early engineer at Cresta, where he developed a reputation for being a learning machine and creative problem solver. Jeff cut his teeth at Plaid, where he was known for his incredible engineering velocity and ability to find product-market fit for new projects. With Exa, the internet is new and exciting again. Guru Chahal and I are excited to lead Exa’s $17M Series A round alongside NVIDIA's NVentures and Y Combinator.

We're excited to announce Exa's Series A funding round, led by Lightspeed, with participation from NVentures (NVIDIA) and Y Combinator. This is just the beginning of our journey to transform the data layer of the AI ecosystem. Thank you to our incredible team, who has been working on this first-of-its-kind search technology since 2021. We're also grateful to our customers for betting on Exa. Together we've seen the power of pairing AI with embeddings search, allowing applications to access niche knowledge like never before. Special thanks to Guru Chahal and Nnamdi Iregbulem from Lightspeed, as well as Artem Barsukov and Samay Dhawan from Nventures, for being thought partners in this and seeing Exa's transformative potential. Let's go!! 🚀 https://lnkd.in/dSfNtqJS

Everyone's talking about superintelligence. No one's talking about superknowledge. We need superknowledge before superintelligence. That's what we're building at Exa. Check out the full blogpost on why. P.S. if you understand how transformational this technology can be and want to be part of the team building it, we're hiring. 🚀 Exa + crewAI = Research Agents that generate weekly newsletters about any topic Hey everyone! I just published a quick tutorial on how to create a GUI app that does research and generates newsletters about any topic. This works with a team of AI agents under the hood that use the Exa API to search the web. Exa is a service that allows your agents to search the web by *meaning* rather than by keyword (unlike, say, Google). In other words: no more SEO-optimized results when searching the web 🥳 This is super useful for your LLM applications because it gives your agents an open window to the internet's knowledge. All that without having to reverse-engineer the keywords in your target information 😎 🔥The AI agents perform these tasks: - Research and summarize the latest news on any given topic. - Verify the relevance and accuracy of the sources. - Compile the top stories into a well-formatted HTML newsletter. 🔥 You can check the full tutorial here 👇 - Youtube (video version of the Crew): https://lnkd.in/dXdN7Ar3 - YouTube (video tutorial on creating the GUI): https://lnkd.in/dM8UNP6R - Blog post (for the written version): https://lnkd.in/d2w99KgP ❤️ Huge thanks to Sarah Chieng for being there and answering my annoying questions about Exa! #AI #Newsletter #Automation #Exa #CrewAI #SemanticSearch #TechTutorial #YouTube

We’re so excited to share our rebrand to Exa! Along with our name change, we’re releasing a suite of web content retrieval features. At Exa, we’ve built an embeddings-based search API for LLMs to semantically retrieve high-quality web content. LLMs can use Exa to access the world’s knowledge, so that their generative outputs are grounded in relevant, up-to-date information. With this launch, you can now apply the power of embeddings to the text content of any webpage. This means you can extract intelligent highlights over every search result. Kind of like sparknotes but for LLMs. Customers using highlights have seen significant increases in user conversion compared to Bing and other search providers. You can read the full announcement here, https://lnkd.in/ghqQhThk, and see the revamped search API here https://exa.ai.
