Why we do what we do!

Strong business fundamentals and making healthcare more accessible and convenient don't need to be mutually exclusive concepts. That's one of the things I love most about Eyebot. Eyebot is building a company on a foundation of product and commercial excellence while remaining focused on the mission of removing the universal barriers to clear vision for everyone. It's a monumental undertaking and, most certainly, a worthwhile one.

The Eyebot team is so excited to welcome its newest member! Elli Mouchtaridou joined today as Operations Coordinator. We're so glad you're here! As is our tradition, here is "5 Questions With"! 🛠 What do you do at Eyebot? I am the newest team member at Eyebot, serving as the Operations Coordinator and Kiyo’s best supporter! I intend to assist with everything that is not related to engineering.   💡 What problem are you most excited to solve at Eyebot? Knowing how time-consuming and inconvenient it can be to update your prescription and get new contacts, I am excited to be part of a team that makes this process quicker, more convenient, and affordable. From my experience in my family’s factory, I learned that when launching a new product, you should expect that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. With an entrepreneurial and problem-solving spirit, I am eager to tackle these challenges. 🎧 It’s focus time. Headphones are on. What are you listening to? High-tempo and danceable music is the best way to start, continue, and end my day. For focus time, I prefer upbeat music with minimal lyrics, so most of my research in college was done while listening to EDM remixes. 🥪 What’s your favorite Boston lunch spot and what do you order? Sweetgreen's salads are my favorite summer lunch spot, and I love the Harvest Bowl with goat cheese. 🏖 What’s your dream vacation destination? Vacation for me is a combination of relaxing, exploring, and swimming in crystal clear waters. Greece’s endless blue is always a great vacation spot for me, but my dream vacation destination lately is Koh Phi Phi Don in Thailand.

This week on "5 Questions with" is the newest member of the Eyebot team, Isaac Estey! We're so glad he's here! 🛠 What do you do at Eyebot? As an Engineering Technician I do a variety of things at Eyebot. My main focus is the electrical and mechanical assembly of Eyebot’s prototypes. I also design and create various fixtures and devices for R&D. 💡 What problem are you most excited to solve at Eyebot? I am most excited to help people get better access to eye care. 🎧 It’s focus time. Headphones are on. What are you listening to? Boards of Canada is one of my go to electronic artists. The absence of lyrics really helps me stay focused. 🥪 What’s your favorite Boston lunch spot and what do you order? One of my favorite lunch spots in Boston is Fish Taco, where I cannot resist ordering fish tacos. 🏖 What’s your dream vacation destination? I have always dreamed of going backpacking in New Zealand.

MassVentures is excited to announce $3 million in START grant funding for 17 deep tech startups. Funded by the Commonwealth and managed by MassVentures, the SBIR Targeted Technologies (START) grant program helps startups convert research developed under SBIR and STTR contracts into viable businesses in Massachusetts. The START program awards companies $100,000 to $500,000 in non-dilutive funds to help them commercialize their technologies. But START is more than just capital. The MassVentures team spends hundreds of hours each year providing business guidance, such as introductions to customers, partners, employees, and capital providers, along with go-to-market strategy, pitch coaching, and mentoring. START is also unique in that it covers activities that are critical for growth but not included in federal grant programs. In addition to supporting innovative companies, START has a tremendous impact on the economic growth initiatives of the Commonwealth. The program helps transfer research into viable businesses, create new industries, generate jobs, and bring new products to market. Since 2012, the MassVentures START program has granted $37.2 million to 125 companies which have gone on to raise more than $5.1 billion and employ more than 3,200 people in the Commonwealth. These companies have also added value by bringing over $2.2 billion in federal grant funding to the state. We are excited to be part of this visionary program and the innovative ecosystem it has helped create here in Massachusetts. MassVentures wants to thank the dozens of amazing companies who applied this year and the dedicated reviewers and judges who volunteered their time to read and score each application. Every year we are bowled over by the groundbreaking ideas in these applications and the outstanding teams who pitch their business plans. This year was no different, so we are very pleased to announce the following winners. Stage III Awards ($500,000) - ActivSignal and EnVision Endoscopy, Inc. Stage II Awards ($200,000) - Advanced Silicon Group, Electrified Thermal Solutions, Gel4Med, Inc., Notch Inc., and Osmoses. Stage I Awards ($100,000) - BioSens8, Bloomer Tech, Emvolon, Eyebot, Guardion, Inc., Ortholevo, PhagePro, Theromics Inc., Transcend Air Corporation and Versatope Therapeutics. https://lnkd.in/erGF94YA Yvonne Hao Sarah Stanton Gabriela Santana Goldstein Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) Charlie Hipwood Stacy Swider Vinit Nijhawan (he/him) Priya Yadav Sienna Leis Whitney Leslie #innovation #SBIR #STTR #nondilutive #startups #deeptech

Our next installment of "5 Questions with" features Sr. Mechanical Engineer Zach Guzaitis! Not only does Zach build the for the future, he's got a great idea on what we can do with some of our past! 🛠 What do you do at Eyebot? As our Senior Mechanical Engineer, I design, build, and test mechanical assemblies for R&D prototypes and production kiosks. By day, you’ll find me, making dust and noise in the shop to prototype design improvements. By evening, I’m usually working with our various manufacturers to build consistent and reliable production units. 💡 What problem are you most excited to solve at Eyebot? I’m excited to start R&D on integrating new technologies,  into our kiosk. Optical health and imaging is rapidly improving every year, but the challenge of putting that in a non-contact kiosk is significant. Adding new tech and improving our own tech could greatly extend the reach of optometrists. Alternatively, we’ve discussed turning old kiosk prototypes into an office jukebox or arcade machine. Every so often, we try to have a little “hackathon” at our office to solve non-critical problems in new creative ways. Repurposing old kiosks would definitely serve the team by clearing some space, remembering history, and giving some well-deserved entertainment. 🎧 It’s focus time. Headphones are on. What are you listening to? My typical rise and grind music is midwest emo, metalcore, pop-punk, indie rock, folk, or lofi. I prefer to listen to complete albums rather than songs, because I find it helps me keep track of time. If I’m working from home, I have a pretty decent turntable and listen to vinyl all day. Cycles of intense focus for 25 minutes followed by a quick break to flip or change records is a great way to keep in my flow state. Lately, I’ve been listening to Harrison Gordon’s album “The Yuppies are Winning” on repeat, but I’m a huge fan of Sleep Token, The Devil Wears Prada, and the Local Natives. 🥪 What’s your favorite Boston lunch spot and what do you order? My favorite spot near the office is Tenoch for Mexican. I’ve never met a burrito I didn’t like, but the Pescado burrito with extra hot sauce is my go-to. 🏖 What’s your dream vacation destination? I love any vacation surrounded by wilderness where the business is quiet and nature is loud. My dream is to see the Northern Lights in their full glory, so camping in Norway and Iceland is way up at the top of my list.

    • It's Zach!
